I'll show you lightning.

It’s a cold night, the first of many as winter moseys back into town. Korra watches many a citizen clutch their collars together and hurry across the street. She doesn’t blame them. This tiny corner of the city is a bad one, dark and defended by the Triple Threats. 

But it’s Mako’s favorite place in the world, and his side is pressed firmly to hers for the first time in far too long so all she seems to see is how appealing the situation is.

She looks over at him, knocks his arm with her elbow.

"Cold?" 

He breathes a puff of fire into his palms. 

"Not really."

"You’re ridiculous."

It almost goes silent as his laughter dies. She decides to go for it right then and there, “rip off the leech” as Bolin called it.

"I should probably go."

"Yeah, so I was wondering - wait!" He did. "I…" He blinked. "Uh, I was thinking - if you aren’t busy sometime soon." He was staring now. It was very annoying. "I just…" she sighed.

"Uh…okay then. Well, like I said before, I should really - "

"Look, I really like you again and I still think we were meant for each other!"

Mako’s stilled for all of a minute before - finally - responding.

"Korra," he says, "If you wanted to go on a second date, you just had to ask."

"Wha - "

Leaning in close, he kisses her forehead as if he had never quit, then leaves her with a grin and more confusion than she had started the damned endeavor with clawing its way into her head.
