the awakening people are having about the depp heard trial is quite frankly too little too late, the time to stand with her and against the pattern of men abusing women and getting away with it was WHEN the trial was happening, not two years later. you blew it. you ruined a woman’s life because you couldn’t be fucked to do any amount of objective research into a trial before joining in on everyone making fun of a vulnerable and beaten down woman having to publicly stand trial to decide whether she gets to speak about her abuse. i’ll literally never forgive society for what they did to amber heard and no amount of “i was just joining in, i didn’t realize what was going on” can take away the fact that the mask came off for a second there & showed everyone for the shallow mean spirited misogynists they are

i hate how "being a girl's girl" has replaced feminism. I hate that enforced conformity has replaced genuine compassion for and solidarity with other women. I hate how women call each other "pick me's" for not conforming to femininity or for daring to critique something other women like. I hate how we just keep finding new socially acceptable ways to bully other women for being unattractive or outspoken or difficult or complicated or weird or ambitious or for not performing femininity. I hate those front facing camera "comedians" whose whole thing is making up a straw-woman to make fun of. I hate the obsession with "girlhood" and clinging to being a girl instead of a woman. i hate "the girl version of the roman empire" and "girlhood" and it's just consumerism and I hate the characterised of girlhood as passivity, niceness, sweetness, helplessness and frivolity and I hate the revival of gender essentialism even as a joke!!!

see the thing is. you can't just put out a full-length documentary of you detailing how you want to get more political and "be on the right side of history" for all the world to see and for your words to be immortalised only to go back into silence in the span of just a few years. putting out a documentary like that is a promise and it's one that she went back on

sorry to highjack the post but this part is so telling to me. because why was that her takeaway from those images. to her they ‘conjured up fears of AI’ and while yes that’s scary, i feel like the more insulting thing would be… painting her as a trump supporter? like if that was me i’d immediately think ‘how dare you say i support you when you stand for such terrible and vocal hatred, i would never’ but she’s still yet to condemn him and his supporters but of course she has made it abundantly clear she sees no issue with people who support trump and his bigotry.
