what to say... the usual.. more short stories i've read recently & thoughts rather than recommendations and such #blogging

joanna's bodies - eugenia triantafyllou. the woman whose body joanna is renting has a nosebleed. jennifer's body inspired; childhood female friendship to co-dependent recurrent resurrection of your dead best friend pipeline wahoo ! my favourite on this list.

underneath the underneath - audrey zhou. hunting dragons + reproductive freedom.. the ideas in this story were sooo haunting

six sides of a fairy tale - audrey zhou. the prophet retells the future... it was more on the short and sweet side, it didn't really dig into the concepts as i would have liked? though preferred it to the previous story i think

hymn to scylla - elena goh. future floating singapore, dreaming of a monster.. the pacing of it all got a little too bogged down in the dream sequence prose imo

seven years from home - naomi novik. galactic confederacy & biological warfare in space, and a t.e. lawrence esque main character. i think novik should foray into scifi more.. her writing style suits it (is this backhanded? disclaimer guys i like scifi...) and a nice change from her usual fantasy themes

i do it all the time i just don’t get people who want to keep books really clean... i love underlining stuff and writing in the margins and dog earing i want the book to live with me !!!

12. did you enjoy any compulsory high school readings?

ive actually enjoyed almost every single thing ive had to read in high school i think it’́s bc ive always liked analyzing texts so even if the books didn’t fit my taste id still derive some kind of pleasure out of them.. fave compulsory reads were probably the trial by kafka and hamlet :3

i don’t feel guilty abt them at all but i really enjoy smutty historical romances like unmasked by the marquess by cat sebastian even tho they never have a satisfactory third act lll

19. most disliked popular books?

the prophet by khalil gibran (im not the target audience for that one), the song of achilles by madeline miller (uneven writing style), crooked kingdom by leigh bardugo (solely bc i hate that one fascist we’re forced to follow i don’t even remember his name) ....
