hot take pride and prejudice isn’t a story about two people who hate each other getting married despite their hate. pride and prejudice is a story about a rich, privileged guy getting called on his privilege and toxic masculinity by the woman he admires and then actually listening to her, taking steps to correct his own toxic masculine behavior, and using his wealth and privilege to rectify the “missing stair” problem he caused by allowing a predator to operate unchecked in his community. he specifically takes action, pays money, and does work without asking for credit or using it to point-score, because he realizes that his job as a privileged person is to protect vulnerable people, especially women. and THAT is what changes his crush’s mind about him, because he does the work and becomes a person she can respect, love, and be proud of. thanks for coming to my TED talk

(I would like to add that there’s a common misconception among <condescending, uninformed misogynists> that the appeal of Austen’s work is all about swooning over hot dudes whereas any loyal Austenite knows that if an Austen man is Too Handsome & Charming he is invariably 100% Bad News: if he doesn’t knock up your underage sister he’ll at least try & elope with her, or maybe some married lady instead; or he’ll try & make you fall for him, like, as a joke; he’s almost definitely a fortune hunter if not also a sexual predator & you are better off with your best friend/that awkward guy who means well & tries hard.)

The term now encompasses stencilled guerrilla graphics, museum-sponsored billboards, appropriated or found material, a cake iced with a laser-jet printed image, printed MDF floors, wallpapers and soft furnishings. In recent years printmaking has co-opted painting and sculpture, dress and domestic furnishings, commerce and cyberspace. Dynamic and democratic, the world of printmaking now includes the billboard and the badge, the masterpiece and the multiple, the priceless and the give-away.
