Testing out the Jingsketch "Thin Ink" pen for sketching. Works nicely!
theyβve had six thousand years of practice of cancelling each other out, of course their love confessions did exactly the same thing.
DAMN way to sum up season 2 in a nutshell....!!
I'm so tired of going to funerals for friends in their thirties.
(I might be rather inconsistent on social media for a while. Right now it takes all the energy I have just to make it through the day without breaking down.)
I'm still not over the fact that in the book, Aziraphale and Crowley are supposed to look 30 and 24 years old...
This is what they would look like
That's David in 1995 in The Bill and Michael in 1997 (not quite 99 like it's supposed to be) in Wilde.
Those are children! Mere babies!
Iβm honestly very glad that they went with two middle-aged men. It changes the story. Theyβve endured more than 6,000 years of terror and persecution and unresolved yearning and you can see it in the lines of their faces andβ¦ it matters. I think itβs also a queering of the expectation that ardent love is only for the young.

Bonus:
Getting ready for spooky season!
hi! i hope youβre having a good night! i was wondering what the significance of crowleys blue shirt and red tie in the 1941 flashbacks mean? they usually wear all black, so i was just wondering if it meant something :)
It meant that Crowley was not going to let anyone mistake him for a Blackshirt during WW2.
oh dang
did not think of that one
but it definitely checks out
(the Blackshirts fought everywhere Italy did in WWII, so sure, they could have turned up in London, theatres where Italy fought were not at all far away)
(and I think there was actually a homegrown British variant? *looks it up* yeah, yeah, there was, British Union of Fascists, actual political party, Oswald Mosley ran it -- it got banned in 1940 but there certainly would have been holdouts in 1941 and everyone would have remembered the look)
If you think about it, it makes sense.
Assuming the absolute best interpretation of the story of the demons and the Fall, theyβre the original anti-fascists. Assuming the worst interpretation, theyβre the original populist-revolution-that-turned-into-oops-all-fascists.
Either way, Crowley is not gonna be a fan of authoritarian jackasses telling other people how they gotta live their lives. And heβs not going to let anyone mistake him for one of that lot.
The thing is. What happened to Crowley and Aziraphale at the end of ep6 is what happens when people aren't free. And Aziraphale and Crowley are not, as demonstrated by the events of s2, free. They do not have autonomy. Crowley can be taken to hell in a swarm of flies at a Duke's whim. Aziraphale can be "erased" from existence with a book.
They do not own themselves.
All other freedoms are forfeit if you do not own yourself.
So no, I don't think "give me coffee or give me death" necessarily means anything other than:
A choice between anything and death is not actually a choice.
I think what really happened to Crowley and Aziraphale, and why they couldn't be together anymore, is that there was no choice for either of them to make that would have kept them together. Because choosing to tell heaven and hell to f*ck off so they can stay together is the secret third option that neither of them brings up in the final fifteen because guess what? They know they aren't free. They know.
Exactly, this. And Iβm afraid that Aziraphale, for many reasons, saw that way more clearly or simply differently than Crowley did.
I think Crowley, in all of S2, is on a whole other level of a semi-apathetic, autopilot-operating trauma survivor, who, at the same time, constantly feels like he needs to grab Everything He Loves and RUN. And I think that instinct to leap towards the (in big, bold, neon letters) EMERGENCY EXIT at any given moment, is a theme that defines so many of his actions in S2.
He literally keeps all his belongings in a car, not even bothering to get settled in a new flat, ready to just strap Aziraphale into the passenger seat of the Bentley and floor the throttle all the way to Alpha Centauri, should Heaven or Hell come for them with pitchforks.
I think heβs torn between feeling numb and in shock from what happened at the Almost End of The Word ββ loosing the Antichrist, almost loosing Aziraphale & the World (is there a difference?), experiencing how Aziraphale actually would have died ββ and being on the absolute highest alert in case all of it happens again. Despite desperately wanting to, he canβt fully settle into this new life, he canβt enjoy it and kick his legs up because heβs just constantly looking over his own shoulder. Running while staying painfully rooted to the spot.
Which explains so many of his sudden mood swings from agitation (e.g. his and Aziβs disagreement about Jimbriel), to anger (e.g. erupting into lightning in fron of Ninaβs cafΓ©), to apathy (e.g. questioning the meaning of Existence, not fully recognising Aziβs attempts at taking their relationship to the next level). Heβs trying to contain a universeβs worth of Emotional Turmoil (good AND bad!) on a teaspoon ββ so, no wonder it leaks out of him almost uncontrollably.
Aziraphale, on the other hand, seems to settle into the new normal way quicker and more easily. We donβt get much of a glimpse of it before naked!Jimbriel turns up on his doorstep, but he seems relaxed, content, back to enjoying his books and music and surroundings. And we see him continuously trying to advance his and Crowleyβs relationship (our car!) throughout the S2. But they donβt quite manage to meet in the middle, as we see multiple times in S2.
Crowley ends up being βrightβ in his initial fear, of course, because Hell does literally come after them with pitchforks (and bad spelling). Which he desperately (I keep using this word lmao) tries to warn Aziraphale about ββ but the angelβs way too pre-occupied with his Jane Austen inspired Cotillion Ball, trying to make Nina Maggie Crowley realize theyβre in love. See the pattern here?
But itβs not only Hell who comes after them, is it? I think both us and also Crowley missed that Heaven came after them just as much as Hell did β just not with pitchforks. Not with an angry army of demons, broken windows and creepy fog in the streets. But maybe with a coffee. And a hefty jiggle of almond syrup. And a looming, unspoken threat so big that it left Aziraphale just one no choice at all but to go along with it.
Itβs almost ironic because Crowley and Aziraphale points of view suddenly switch in the very Last Fifteen minutes. Crowley, who has felt like theyβve had a target on their backs every since Armagedidnβt and couldnβt simply let himself enjoy life with Aziraphale by his side, suddenly is ready for exactly that, doing a Brielzebub and eloping to the stars.
And Aziraphale, whoβs spent all of S2 trying to get to Next Base with Crowley, ignoring or the very real threat they were still both facing, suddenly finds himself with a big βKICK KILL MEβ sign taped to his back by the Metatronβs faux-friendly promotion shoulder-pat.
Point is: Itβs no wonder that after an entire season of mild to severe miscommunication, it all (temporarily) ends with ββ well, the biggest miscommunication of them all. And them not getting the freedom they so (forgive me) desperately want and will simply not be given.
Good Omens and the Sound of Music.
So I havenβt seen anyone talk about how the plot of the Sound of Music is about a misfit nun in a convent where she canβt conform so sheβs sent to be a governess and along the way falls in love with a very prickly man with a heart of gold who is unavailable - and fighting against the totalitarian regime threatening him and his home.
Sheβs conflicted about these feelings and panics after they share a dance, and she flees back to the convent to take her vows. Sheβs encouraged to return to where her heart lies, so she goes, and she and the captain marry and flee the war together with their family.
And if we recall:
Iβm just saying.

β¨HELO I'M UNWELLβ¨
Ok, for a while i thought i'd make something pure comfort because God knows how much we all need it after the season 2 finale BUT! Plot twist, here I am serving some angst 8)
Because yes, because I love them and I'm devastated, because I think I've listened to "Mary on a Cross" 320 times in the last two weeks and I couldn't get this image out of my mind, so I had to put it on paper thanks to the help/collaboration/madness of @gladia-delmarre , who thought of making everything ten thousand times more painful by writing a splendid poem
So, here it is Crowley, who for centuries and centuries has carried the cross of his love for Aziraphale and now can finally abandon himself in his arms (because if the third season will not end with them loving each other forever, I will scream.)
Here you can read the entire poem, do it because it's worth it :'3

Inspired by Michelangelo's "PietΓ "
S2 had such a wealth of fun expressions π
In retrospect, I think this piece looks a lot nicer as lineart - and with the focus narrowed down to the lovely ladies π
Yoooo, I just crossed 1,000 followers here! Welcome and thank you so much, my friends!
I'm afraid I'm on an unexpected art hiatus due to losing power in my house for almost a week. But it's restored now and I'm slowly getting the home back in order. Can't wait to start doodling again - once I finish these endless loads of laundry, that is π

As a fandom, I don't think we talk enough about how Neil Gaiman said Crowley's favorite (modern) TV show is 'The Good Place' like it's a show where the entire system of the afterlife is broken and ineffective which speaks to Crowley wanting to escape both Heaven and Hell. But also about a demon who loves humans so much that he goes against basically everyone so they can have a better afterlife. Who learns about morality by spending time with humans and once he learns about it he wants nothing more but than to protect them. Plus he's got a thing for human magic. It makes perfect sense that Crowley likes it and it makes me incredibly happy.
I posted these thoughts last season
and just the actual idea of Crowley crashing on Jane's couch just knowing her as a spy and not a novelist accidentally becoming the inspiration for P&P is hilarious meanwhile Aziraphale is somewhere hanging on edge for the latest publication to come out
Okay this might be my favorite theory ever.
Forget foreshadowing and the meaning of whatever minute thing we fixate on in some random scene (though I accept that a great many of those things arenβt that minute, and the given scene isnβt necessarily that random.)
Just the idea that Crowley inspired P&P and that Aziraphale went nuts for his own love story without even knowing it. I fucking LOVE this idea so hard.
