To be totally upfront I went into the final of TADC expecting to hate it, and I kinda did. I thought the ending with the brain scans and everything was probably supposed to hit bigger when it was first drafted, but since basically everyone figured it out almost immediately they had to pivot and just kind of glossed over it, which I mean, I kinda respect instead of trying to play a pretty obvious twist like something to be surprised about. Didn't love the ending Caine got, like ok, he got to see the internet and oh whohoo everyone is doing so amazing and their lives turned out perfect. So cool. (Although, Jax being the kind of person to unironically salute people is both very in character and very funny imo.) All in all I found it all to be a bit bland given how good of a plot it started out to be, and how much potential it had for genuine horror or at the very least something more interesting than the semi dramatic sitcom it turned into. Which to be perfectly fair I haven't really liked it since it first came out and still had all of that potential, so I'm probably just not the target audience for this show. And then we get to Jax's plot, which while not necessarily paced the best given it was kind of awkwardly shoved into the middle of the episode and took up waaaaay to much time since it barley moved the plot along at all and really only served as fan service; was genuinely one of the most well written depictions of a transgender character I've ever seen. (Ngl, I haven't seen a ton) but it resineted with me in a way that was deeply uncomfortable. Because he sucks, just like objectively, but oh my god he is so similar to me back in high-school its scary. The anxiety and fear and sadness and such deep self loathing all coming out as anger, and the pure panic of coming out to someone and immediately regretting it even if they said and did all of the right things. Just the pure fear of letting someone have that power over you, knowing that at any minute they could tell someone and just like that your life would never be the same, and you're so so scared that all you can do is push them away and pray that if they ever do say anything people with brush it off as some strange way of getting back at you for the shitty way you've been treating them. So Kudos to TADC ig for leaving me feeling both bored and seen to the point its deeply unsettling.
