Leaving abusive houses like this is a moment of selfishness, especially for eldest daughters. Eldest daughters who have spent thier whole childhood grown up for the sake of thier baby brothers. Eldest daughters who realize that if she stays, they're both doomed. But maybe, maybe she can survive. And maybe she can be a kid for once.

The selfishness is much more apparent to the baby brothers who are left behind, suffering directed at her now directed at him, where once there was a protector, a barrier between him and the worst of it all, now gone. The baby brother now raw and exposed and alone with the cause of his suffering, going to sleep knowing, shell come back for me, and feeling like an idiot when, years later, he realizes she wont. Abandoned and betrayed, and she never comes back to save him.

And years later, finally seeing her again... and she disowns you. Has a new family. Refutes your reaching hand, spits in your face.
