My perspective is skewed because I went to small, liberal arts Jesuit college, wherein I felt far more accepted and comfortable being myself than I was at the college I had been at previously, which had a large lgbtqia+ presence but it felt... Too straight, I suppose. I didn't tell many of them, but the fact that I wrote my chosen name on all my documents, despite the legal name on my ID card and in the class lists, how I dressed, etc. I figured... Would've given it away. Anyway, some of my queer professors would actually ask pronouns, etc, as part of the "intro" portion of their classes when they introduce everyone, etc. (I remember the way a girl stared at me after my Ethics professor called me Mr. (blank). ) I, personally, only told the professors I was comfortable with telling and after I had established a rapport with them. Depending on where you go to college, this could be easy. If anything, I might suggest bringing it up to your advisor, first, and go from there. They have likely worked with your professors (and are often one of them!) So, they can provide support and perhaps guidance with how best to approach your different professors. Truth be told, a lot of professors you'll barely remember, and those are the ones I never even bothered with to begin with. But all of the professors I remember the best, I would usually tell one-on-one in their office during office hours when I was visiting them about something else. Probably not super helpful, but that's just my experience as a trans guy in college. (Over a decade ago, now, oof.)
