The gay community in 2012 : our sexuality does not define us, we are more than just âgayâ, we have a personality just like the rest of you, how dare you reduce us to a label, to a stereotype-
The gay community today : you know what thatâs a lie, we are gays first and human beings second
Love how a lot of âautistic parenting problemsâ can get fixed by just using your brain:
âmy autistic child doesnt like hugsâ so donât hug them, that will be 150 dollars
âMy autistic child had a meltdown in a busy grocery storeâ so donât bring them to a busy grocery store
âMy autistic child is a picky eaterâ So give them the food they like but also encourage them to try new food in fun positive ways
âMy autistic child only want to wear the same shirt everydayâ so let them wear the same shirt everyday
âMy autistic child claims loud noises hurt their ears.â So turn the goddamn noise down, Susan!
some of this definitely tracks but a lot of the time itâs not as simple as that. if youâre a single parent with an autistic child, and you canât afford childcare, you canât just leave your kid at home alone while you get food. sometimes taking children to places that they donât like is 100% necessary. however, something that might help in this situation is giving the child clear information beforehand about what is going to happen, letting them know they are heard, and telling them exactly what is expected of them and how long it will last:
we have to go to the grocery store. i know that you donât like it there because [anything they have said before about why it makes them upset] and i donât either, but we have to do it. we are leaving at x time, so you have until then to [transition from what they were doing before]. when we are there, you need to walk next to me/hold my hand/(maybe give them a task such as counting how many types of fruit they can see in the store, a small activity to do, or a stim toy. keeping them grounded and entertained is good). it will take y amount of time, and then it will be over and we can come back home and you can do z [special interest related activity or other reward that will recharge their nd batteries after a draining experience]
autistic children grow up to be autistic adults. sooner or later they will have to go into a grocery store, maybe on their own, maybe every week, for their whole adult life. acclimatising them to knowing how grocery stores work from a reasonably young age, helping them learn that grocery stores are not scary, and that if they are scary they are at least endurable and that trips there donât last forever, is going to be far more effective and helpful in the long run than simply teaching children that if they donât like something they donât have to do it. coping strategies are far more useful than avoidance for situations that are necessary.
i am saying this as an autistic adult, who was an autistic child, and who has very specific difficulties with grocery shopping myself, before anyone comes for me calling me neurotypical or whatever.
My favorite has been, âSam, youâre autistic, my autistic kid freaks out in stores what do I do?â
Has he had water and a snack before going in?
âWhat?â
Has he. Had water. And a snack. Before going in.
âWell no butââ
Heâs melting down and overloading because his basic needs arenât being met but he isnât recognizing it/doesnât know how to communicate that. Grocery stores are inherently overwhelming but itâs worse when youâre dehydrated and your blood sugar is low. Those tiny water bottles and an easy snack like a banana while youâre sitting in the parking lot before going in and going over the game plan will help.
âOh.â
Yeah. Also sunglasses. And headphones if you can. Also have you tried involving him?
âWhat?â
Hey *insert childâs name here* in this aisle weâre looking for milk, you know the kind we usually have in the fridge, itâs red with a white cap do you see it? Like that.
âNo. I havent done that.â
Try it. Now heâll be hydrated, with a level blood sugar, know what the game plan is, have some items to help with sensory info, and be less bored. It wonât be perfect but it will help.
I would like to emphasize the âsunglasses and headphones,â because seriously, 80% plus of peopleâs problems (that they canât just easily avoid with no negative consequences) would probably be solved if they got their kids comfortable sunglasses and headphones. (If youâre reading this as an autistic person and donât know the wonder of sunglasses and headphones - get them and use them. It took until my mid-twenties to realize how much better life could be with $15 at a CVS.)
Also you know what? My kid didnât like hugs. They still donât like most touching with most people
But they will absolutely choose to hug me now of their own volition
Why?
Because I askes first and I respected it if they said no
Also my husband and I hug and they see hugging your loved ones as a positive
But we always ask and if Kiddo said no as a little kid weâd say âokay! How about a high five?â And that was usually enthusiastically agreed with and if they say no now we just say okay
Kiddo asks to hug me now of their own volition because they know itâs an option rather than a requirement
If kids feel safe and in control of the physical contact they might not mind giving hugs
white terrorists with guns and confederate flags breaking into the highest government building in the entire country, congressmen going into hiding, a bomb threat called out, and the police does less than nothing. unarmed black activists get tracked down and dragged out of their own homes by police, they get shot and gassed in the street by police and white supremacist civilians alike for peacefully protesting their right to not get murdered, and the media and government treat them like unlawful, immoral savages.Â
but when itâs your uncle chris and his beer buddies breaking the fence and climbing into the fucking capitol with guns, thereâs no riot geer. thereâs no gas. thereâs no coverage calling them terrorists. no, itâs a peaceful protest by a bunch of passionate patriots. this country needs to be burned to the ground.Â
just so weâre clear, saying âwow this feels like weâre in north korea/afghanistan/syria/venezuela/pakistan/[insert another country in the global south]â is racist and orientalist. this is happening here, in the united states, and if you had your head out of your ass youâd know that 250 years of white supremacy and genocide and capitalism and colonial violence and imperialism have led up to this moment. the united states did not only ALLOW this to happen here, the united states created this and has been enacting fascism since it was created.

iâm not interested in anything anyone has to say abt terrorists breaking into the capitol if it doesnât include race. donât just call them trump supporters, donât just call them right wingers, donât just call them fascists and donât imply the only reason theyâre not getting shot dead and gassed like thousands of black protesters is because theyâre trump supporters.
theyâre white domestic terrorists. their whiteness lets them afford the privilege to strut past police and into the biggest government building in the entire country while holding rifles and machine guns. not their political ideology, their whiteness. say it all or shut the fuck up.
oh the symbolism of it all
âArt evokes the mystery without which the world would not exist.â

âWhen thereâs a problem, I always find an answer.â
I bet you do like tits you little bitch
well of course i do but what the fuck does this mean are you okay
me and my internalised homophobia, age 12
This used to be called âAuto Shopâ and âHome Economics,â subjects which were included in nearly every high school curriculum up until the 1980s. Auto maintenance, budget management, sewing skills, cooking, and other basic Adulting skills were actually taught in classroom settings. But suddenly all that money got funneled away to sports and graduation requirements shifted toward standardized tests because those were somehow more? important? than life skills? and the home ec and shop classes were no longer taught, even as electives. Weâve been steadily losing arts classes for similar reasons.
And so students leave school with a thorough grounding in football and calculus, but having no idea how to sew on a button or change a tire.Â
Petition to bring back these classes in every single middle and high school in the country.
Like most things that went wrong in the 80s, this is due to Reagan. He signed the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act into law which allowed âJob Creatorsâ to control our educational system.
If it canât help the Boug make a buck from you, it no longer gets taught.

âI think, when a woman wants to feel elegant and powerful but in control, a very beautiful, tailored three-piece suit goes a long way to making you feel that ⌠and I think that was part of what was going on there with Lena.â - KM
A Twitter user saw an ad for this neat, unassuming house for sale for less than $159,000.Â
It had a beautiful yard, so he made an appât to see it. And, thatâs when things got weird.Â
The living room was messy and tacky, but it had a nice spiral staircase, an open 2nd fl. balcony, and Mediterranean style.Â
But what was up with this mural of outer space?
And these 2 creepy homemade aliens?
Well, the space theme continued into the dining room. The mural made it look like you were in a spaceship that landed on the moon- see earth off in the distance?
Hmmm. This looks like the conference room in a space ship.Â
The kitchen is plain, but still has a few touches, as well as a âsealedâ hatch door.Â
What, you say you like the beach? This house has you covered. The bedroom has a waterbed and thatâs real sand on the floor.Â
The bathroom is a tropical rain forest.Â
This 2nd bedroom is beautifully staged in a hippie retro theme- notice the square bed- it must be a cardboard box.
Look, this spare room is a blank canvas- you can make it anything you like.
And, I donât know what this is on the mezzanine.Â
The back of the house is nice, but itâs a little overgrown- the ivy is starting to cover some of the windows. It was sold for $152,500.
