I do think it's helpful to remember that most of the USA is way hotter than Europe and that's part of why we like big bevvy so much. We aren't just hedonists, we're also too fucking hot!!
It's 32°C/90°F where I am today. I do not live in one of the very hot places, it is considered a temperate area. It's a bit warm but not uncomfortably so as it is not overly dry or wet, the humidity is around 35%. It's quite lovely out, actually.
I have traveled to the hot desert regions of the US and to the wet and hot regions and both are miserable. The desert is fever hot and the wet hot is so wet it feels like you're choking if you're not used to it. Both are unpleasant until you get acclimated.
As long as the humidity stays between 30-60% I'm usually fine with the heat.
But yes, staying hydrated in the heat is a priority for a vast amount of US Americans. Large beverages help us with staying hydrated, it can be water or soda or something else, electrolytes need to be replaced due to loss from sweating.
We do lose people to heat related health conditions every summer. I don't know the statistics but how to treat over heating and heat stroke is a part of the emergency preparation and first aid training I have received.
There are emergency cooling shelters in the city near me every year from June to September to give people a place to cool off if the electricity or AC goes out or if they are homeless/unhoused.
AND it's hurricane season! So there may be one or more large, very damaging storms near me very soon. We seem to have skipped the tornados this year, somehow, and the wildfires have been mostly contained. No earthquakes or floods near me either, so far. Usually we get at least one natural disaster every three to six months or so. Not usually severe enough to impact much of anything, thankfully. This past winter was harsh however and I had to repair my house from the snow as it ripped my gutters down.
I've lived through a bunch of natural disasters so it's old hat now. I've accepted that I may die due to mother nature's wrath if I'm not prepared so I stay prepared as best I can.
