What image is Sam Heughan trying to project?
Lately, I've been struggling to understand the direction his public image is taking.
It feels like he's trying to appeal to a different audience—perhaps a younger crowd or people more connected to the sports world through his involvement with the Glasgow 2026 Games. If that's the strategy, I don't think it's working.
The image he projects today doesn't feel, to me, like that of a 46-year-old athlete with an established career and plenty of experience. Instead of coming across as natural, many of his recent antics feel forced. What is probably meant to look funny or carefree ends up looking immature from my perspective.
Some people compare him to Finn Russell, but I don't think that comparison really works. Finn is almost ten years younger, in a completely different stage of life, and he projects a very different image. Besides being an outstanding athlete, he comes across as authentic, grounded, and family-oriented. That's not something you can imitate—authenticity can't be copied.
What surprises me most is that, if the goal was to attract a new audience, many of these recent choices seem to have the opposite effect. And the people who continue supporting him are, for the most part, the same fans who have always been there.
This is simply my personal opinion as a fan and someone who has followed his career. Others may see it differently, but I genuinely wonder what kind of image he's trying to build today.

Últimamente me cuesta entender la dirección que está tomando su imagen pública.
Da la impresión de que está intentando atraer a un público diferente, quizás más joven o más vinculado al deporte desde su participación como promotor de los Juegos de Glasgow 2026. Si esa es la estrategia, desde mi punto de vista no está dando resultado.
La imagen que transmite hoy no me parece la de un hombre de 46 años, deportista, con una carrera consolidada y muchas cosas para ofrecer. En lugar de verse natural, muchas de sus actitudes me resultan forzadas. Lo que probablemente pretende ser divertido o irreverente termina viéndose, para mí, como algo inmaduro.
Algunos mencionan a Finn Russell como referencia, pero no creo que la comparación tenga demasiado sentido. Finn es casi diez años menor, está en otra etapa de su vida y proyecta una imagen muy distinta: además de ser un gran deportista, transmite naturalidad, estabilidad y una fuerte vida familiar. Eso no se puede imitar; la autenticidad no se copia.
Lo que más me llama la atención es que, si el objetivo era conquistar un público nuevo, muchas de las decisiones recientes parecen generar el efecto contrario. Y quienes siguen apoyándolo son, en gran medida, las mismas personas que siempre estuvieron ahí.
Es solo mi opinión como fan y observadora de su carrera. Otros pueden verlo de manera diferente, pero realmente me pregunto cuál es la estrategia detrás de la imagen que está proyectando hoy.
