Aladdin Visual Development
Notes from Yana: Magestones
What RSA students hold during battles isn't actually a sword, it's a baton (a conductor's baton). It's an item that's separate from their magic-stone brooch meant to reinforce their visual theme, and it allows for more customization in appearance than a magical pen. Trein uses the same brooch-style magic stone as RSA, since I imagined both following a traditional style. (source)
Crewel also carries a rod, but he wears his magic stone dangling from a strap, giving off a flashier impression (his personal taste takes priority over tradition).
Vargas's bracelet is also just his own personal preference. I imagine that once they're adults they're free to design their magic stones however they like, so it might be fun to think about how the students will customize theirs in the future. (source)
Also, Idia's magic stone is set in a magical device, but he probably did receive a standard magical pen when he first enrolled. He just took it apart on his own and went all out on modifying it. What a troublemaker. (source)

a silly little thought
According to Kalim, he does not eat food that either hasnāt personally been prepared by Jamil or hasnāt been taste tested for him before he consumes it. However, there are plenty of instances (namely in vignettes) where Kalim eats food made by someone else and/or without it being tasted tested first. One recent example of this is his La BonbonniĆØre card, where Kalim eats the cider jelly made for him by the patisserie.
Now, Iām pretty sure this is just done out of convenience so the devs donāt have to drop everything to consistently write Kalim worrying about his food (although this definitely does occur sometimes, like in Cloudcalling; Leona has to reassure Kalim that food bought from a stall is safe for him to have). But if we try to incorporate the lore I mentioned earlier š¤ then does Jamil just⦠follow Kalim around, take bites of his food and sips of his drink, then stand by quietly while Kalim has a meal????? And the vignettes just donāt show this (they continue to focus on Kalim) to demonstrate to us, the viewers, how little Jamil and/or his presence matters relative to Kalimās???
I keep thinking back to how Jamil acted during the Blazing Jewel concert when he stood next to Kalim š§āāļø Stoney faced, not speaking a single word, acting as if heās operating on autopilot, just there to play support and make Kalim shine brighter while he recedes into the shadowsā¦
When you think of every meal Kalim has ever had like that š it takes on an almost eerie feeling, no? Jamil silently standing in the corner like a sleep paralysis demon⦠Not to mention it really emphasizes the disparity in social status between the two. It makes me feel especially bad for Jamil š¦
01 TWST Design Analysis: 3rd Dorm - Octavinelle/Marinafinne
I would have waited for Twst!Alice comes to start the analysis but, while speed is the least of our concerns, truth the matter is that the game decided to show us Octavinelle and Scarabiaās equivalents first rather than following the right order⦠therefore, why should I? (alternatively: I really want to talk about any of them asap)
For a better comprehension, I divided the analysis into these categories:
Dorms Fashion Style
What Does The Design Inform Us? (Azul)
What Does The Design Inform Us? (Rielle)
The Difference An Sprite Can Make
1st Edition Conclusion: RSA Overall Style vs NRCās
This came from the discussions of one school of design seemingly being better than the other and in its hilariously unserious summarization: āare our NRC boys being out mogged?ā and the other side of the spectrum complaining about RSAās maximalist style (from what we saw of Rielle and Minajael), as well as some weird element choices.Ā
Iāll attempt to analyze and down the line find ways to appreciate the way the design department wanted to mix Disney character elements and a few things of irl clothing, plus the fantasy and sometimes exacerbated fashion concepts that are only possible on paper. This is neither a defense or a dunk since I hold good opinions for both of them and I'm not a professional. I just want to put my artistic hyperfixations to good use!
So, letās go!

Update on the Rielle's shoes part! Realized it in a convo with @theladyheroine <3
Jamil vs Minajael
I'd like to take the time to open the discussion of how Minajael and Jamil differ in their intelligence.
Because, I know we make fun of jamil alot but this recent chapter revealed alot.
Now you'd think because of Dunasmina light being wisdom that this is a classic case of wisdom vs intelligence but it's not.
According to official translation, Scarabia is about foresight and the one who is selected as Housewarden is the most cunning and resourceful.
Which we saw in their differences in approach.
Minajael is a prince, who to the outside is perfect, but we know that he's spends majority of his time in the palace, it is their that he spends time reading and learning from books.
His um let's him discern a spell but he can only break the spell, based on his bag of magic. This what we see in the staircase scenes.
Now jamil and ruggie come across these same stairs. However, they cannot dispel the trap, as they don't have the time or knowledge , but jamil makes it rain, letting them see which steps are fake.
Jamil (and ruggie but I'll focus on jamil) comes up with a creative solution that's let them solve their dilemma. Jamil as kalim's servant is constantly busy and working. There's all sorts of problems to be had in the dorm and back in the asim estate. This forces jamil to be resourceful and creative in his solutions. Because, unlike Mina, jamil can't just stop and read to find a solution.
And because our Kalim, who is excitable and curious, and a lil chaotic this forces jamil to be even more adaptable and resourceful.
Neither, is better than the other. Jamil's way is very adaptable and creative but at least for the stair case are temporary.
Minajaelās fix the problem at it's core but requires alot time in studying and is more rigid.
So that begs the question if they confront eachother and both are equal in terms of intelligence.
Who comes out on top?
That's the end of my discussion thank you for reading and please share your thoughts I'd love to hear them.
Guys, I think I've cracked the code. I know the in-universe process for who gets selected for RSA versus NRC! And it's not jerks/villains and goody two shoes/heroes.
RSA gets all the ones actually capable of self-reflection and healthy communication. And NRC takes all those who would quite literally rather DIE than so much as admit they have a problem, let alone ask for help.
No, genuinely, I'm not joking. Think about it, it makes sense. Even those that don't really fit the "stereotypical" NRC student image fit this criteria. Kalim has a problem with admitting he has problems, Silver preferred to get eaten by dream monsters than live with his revealed blood lineage, Ortho is a robot, Jack is a tsundere. I could go on and on.
And while we haven't seen too many RSA students yet, I think it's already obvious they're better way at this than NRC. Forget the princess glow - this is how they've really been winning over and over again! The secret is that their school environment is overall far less toxic!

less literal than it maybe should be, but there was a bunch of stuff I wanted to try to get in there, and eventually I just had to call it done. :U (...for now) (we'll see how it goes)
anyway I'm continuing to enjoy this RSA time! they really are on a totally different plane of emotional existence than we're used to from these guys, aren't they.
book 8 spoilers???? i guess???
this was how Azul was getting Rielle to sign the contract
