Im not creating this out of my ass, this is literally the one and only, straight from the author, the new info we got for acotar’s future. Treating this info as nothing and ignored it just show how bias u are and that all of ur theories is based on WHAT YOU WANT and not WHAT THE AUTHOR INTENDED TO HAPPEN.

Antis dismiss it by claiming “free will in mating bond” meant Elain accepting the bond. If thats the case then why do SJM also discuss abt lucien and his “betrayal”. Why does she put the bond in negative light and purposely said that its different from what Feysand’s and Nessian’s have. And the iconic quote “nature made a mistake“.

So when I see #those fan made canva on what might be the future plot is, and they blatantly never address Elain’s mating bond situation, its bcoz they know that its heading towards the rejection plot per sjm’s comment.

Elain rejecting the mating bond or departure from what she has with Lucien was always hinted and intended to happen as proof from Acowar:

Azriel only lusts after Elain!!

What about all the times he did caring things for her? That isn’t just lust. Caring actions + lust = romance. Romantsy is not a complex genre.

That’s not special towards Elain! He would do those things for anyone! He would have helped anyone!

Even if that were true he still actively chose to do all of those for Elain. On his own, without being asked or pushed. Plus the author spent a whole page pointing out that Azriel in fact has never given away Truth Teller so your argument is disproven in the text.

He would do the same for Feyre and Nesta!

Two people he considers his close friends. So if his generous actions show he cares about Feyre and Nesta, then don’t his generous actions also show he cares about Elain.

It is just platonic!

But you just said it was only lust. Those things cannot be true at the same time. They can’t have just a platonic relationship and it be only lust. So again, he cares about her as much as he cares about his other close friends and is also attracted to her … sort of like how Cassian and Rhys cared deeply for Feyre and Nesta as people while also being attracted to them. But she did not say romance. And then she proceeded to write the two characters sharing the most unromantic interactions she has ever written. You know people can grow without romance right? Like maybe Lucien helps Elain stand up for herself simply by being a mate she refuses to accept. And Lucien grows by refusing to force a mating bond that doesn’t work. Refusing to be like his father. There are literally so many opportunities for them to help each other without romance. And unfortunately for you, that is where they currently are, without romance.

Lucine deserves his mate! Azriel deserves better than Elain!

So Elain is just an object to you, and not a good one at that (in your uneducated opinion) That’s a bold statement to make in a fantasy series centered around strong women, where the author has already confirmed Elain will have a book. Almost like the author knows her value even if you don’t. Elain is not a thing she is a person. What a gross take for a woman to have.
