I love how Lihaku doesnt give A FUCK, he's always like "what's going on?" and Maomao hits him with the "don't worry about it, kitten" and he goes "okay đ yay đ" like đđđź
And you know what? He just does his job as a soldier and doesnât worry about it đЎđŠˇâ¨ it all works out
Gaoshun constantly reminding Jinshi to change his behavior with Maomao now that he's the Moon Prince publicly, meanwhile Jinshi after 1 minute of being alone with Maomao:
He's a happy puppy now that his owner is back.
the love language of hairpins đ

To Be Known
One thing Iâve loved about this anime is how they set up certain scenes over the series to look similar so we can draw inferences about potential meaning behind those moments. Before, in The Hunt episode where Jinshi and Maomao are behind the waterfall I made an observation about how while Maomao sees herself in a diminutive light, Jinshi does not. Well for this scene we almost get a reversal. How Jinshi sees himself vs. how Maomao sees him.
Jinshi here is the insecure one. Heâs asking Maomao, âIs my pretty face the only value I hold?â. Immediately she shakes her head no. We then see Jinshi from her perspective as before we saw Maomao from his. We notice she knows he is objectively beautiful, although to her maybe too much so as it causes people to focus only on that.
But her internal thoughts are about who he is as a person, that his essence isnât like his appearance. That heâs solid and practical which she says is âprobably more valuable than his appearance.â It gives us the first real glimpse at what Maomao thinks about Jinshi vs her outward reactions which can be misleading. She then tells him he is more manly than before. To her this appears to be a small comment, like anyone else can observe it. But to Jinshi itâs everything.
To be truly known by someone, not just for what you look like or pretend to be on the surface but who you are as a person is the core of love and understanding. For Jinshi, to be seen as manly when he has only ever been appreciated for his looks and despises how people objectify and feminize him, is like being freed from a giant weight. Especially coming from Maomao whose opinion he holds in high esteem and wishes to pursue romantically. Looking back on the Hunt episode where he was so worried about confessing to her who he was and what that would mean, to this moment where she knows fully and yet still touches his cheek warmly and thinks of him in an admirable way, they've grown so much. We finally get to see that itâs not just a one-sided appreciation from Jinshiâs perspective but Maomao looking at, seeing and understanding him as well đđ
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto | Ep46 | Sorry to trouble you, but could you protect me, Master Jinshi?
do you ever feel like the jinmao dynamic is mostly maomao seeing their relationship as her belonging to jinshi (esp considering their difference in rank and status) while jinshi's trying to convince her that she belongs with him (because love is the ultimate equalizer)?
so relaxing
both jinshi and mao mao not being given enough attention and love during their childhood made them emotionally repressed yet so different from each other here we have jinshi who acts like a child sometimes (I relate so hard) whenever he's in his comfort zone or around people he doesn't mind being childish in front of (maomao, suiren and gao shun) and he puts on his 'I'm perfect in every single aspect and idc abt your crush on me' persona and then we have maomao who thinks being empathetic towards other brings more troubles than its worth and doesn't wanna let others see that she cares but she does she acts all tough and shit but she's such softie inside and won't hesitate to do act of services for the people she loves and oh how much I love this dynamic and analyzing things like these

Jinshi-sama đđ
Jinshi was wrong. Lihua should've been allowed to clock this bitch.
Itâs incredibly important to me that the anime decided to include this scene that wasnât in the manga. In the manga, Maomao does pass out in Jinshiâs lap after saving him from what was obviously an assassination attempt.
HOWEVER, the manga cuts off at this point, keeping strictly in Maomaoâs perspective, and cuts straight to when she regains consciousness in bed after being treated for her injuries. The manga doesnât show how she got back. They SAY how, and she briefly mentions, âwow that must have been embarrassing; he carried me back,â but we donât SEE it. We donât get to feel the true impact of what that means. But the anime DID show us, and holy shit.
They SHOW us how taboo this is. They show Jinshi carrying her out of the temple, after a public attempt on his life.
They show us the shock and horror on Lakanâs face as Jinshi silently walks past him. Horror at the state his daughter is in, horror at another manâa man with a status he could never dare to questionâstaking such a public claim over his child, horror at the fact that he could never have this level of closeness with her (as Maomao would never allow it).
Everyone hides their gazes, as is their custom when someone of his rank passes by, but the air is different this time. Jinshi is furious, heâs terrified, and he could not give a single shit about how inappropriate it looks to these palace officials.
The shot that slowly follows her trail of bloodâeven though itâs a small detailâthat in particular leaves such a intense impression of how poignant this is for him.
Maomao talked about this scene in the manga like it was nothing to her. She did what she set out to do: she saved the person who was targeted by the attack. She didnât even know the target would be someone she knew. But she has no idea that this happened afterwards as a result of her bravery. To her, it likely wasnât even an act of bravery at all. She acted on impulse; she did what she knew was the right thing to do.
The anime didnât need to include this, because the manga didnât show it. But damn, Iâm so glad they did.
That colour palette burned my retina
