i’ve seen a post about the initial event before, but i wouldnt want to add a bunch on, and i cant find it anyway, so i’ll just recap here along with some  explanations of background information so that people who don’t use the site can understand just how wild what happened last night was.

a few weeks ago, someone figured out what is commonly referred to as the “Tileset” method of searching for pets, which involves using an excel spreadsheet to generate a series of image URLs of neopets which you can then preview in an HTML file. the result looked like this:

theoretically you could do the same thing much faster with a bot, but that’d get you banned

this was used to find “stuck” pets, which are neopets whose names start with certain characters that make them impossible to see in the pound unless you search for them

but the pets with the most value are the unconverted neopets. basically when neo introduced customization they had to make all of the pets of the same species have the same pose, so they changed all the art. however they allowed some painted pets to stay “unconverted” and use the old artwork. but you can’t make new unconverted pets, so there’s a limited supply

so like, a lot of people were searching of course because hey! who doesn’t want a rare and cool-looking pet that you can’t get through any method other than trading!

but only around 10 unconverted neopets were found, and very few people got lucky

then today around 10 am, someone posted a list of 700 unconverted pets stuck in the pound

there were some really phenomenal names

the trading community went batshit

it turns out that jawbreakers are really hard to find a simple and consistent way to stylize, aaaaa

i think what i’m gonna do is go with the one I shaded, but maybe not have the spots be very consistent and say they can look however? the fourth one in the group photo is the one that looks the most like a jawbreaker and is probably my favorite out of these, but its not easy to replicate

working on my magma eyrie warrior oc, but I haven’t picked a name from her because her real name on neo is lame :T
