I'd love to find a bar where they play music like this. I am starting a serious hunt for it. Somehow I feel this could actually be fun.
From now on I will play this song in my mind when there is someone talking to me too much about something irrelevant and I am too polite to hint that it’s time he/she stopped feeding my brain with nothing. Simply cause it’s so calming and one could imagine this track being a soundrack to a beautiful dream from which you wake up to nicely cold blankets. Yeah, it will work. Music by Morly
There is still summer in Prague but not really. In the evenings she lets you sit outside on a terrace in a tshirt but the clouds covering the horizont are actually an expression of her mood and of what she is about to be like. Nasty and bitchy, sometimes cold and unwelcoming, yet bloody charming, smart and seductive. Gotta love her.
Anyone seen Superpitcher's heart? He wants it back.

I am from Exit
Time flies so fast. Winter didn’t even manage to cause me any harm bigger than a bit of a sore throat after smoking a cig outside of a bar and half of the first month of the new year has already passed.
It hasn’t been such a bowl of cherries for everyone though. Angela Merkel should stay in bed for three weeks, Michael Schumacher might never wake up again. In the light of these sad accidents which happened while skiing, I feel a strong urge to recommend a trip to the mountains to some other people though. Namely to the western European politicians who got stuck in the times of Cold war.
The European Union in its today’s shapes necessarily leads to creation of a political union of the current or potentially new members. Given the euro as a common currency which all the member states are obliged to accept sooner or later (with the exception of Denmark, Sweden and UK), legislative supervision of the organs of the EU over the legislation of the member states and other visible and invisible signs indicate it more than clearly. So here is just a modest thought: maybe it is the highest time the Western European politicians woke up from the lethargy of the old times and started to take its Eastern Europeans partners with all the dignity they deserve. The recent buzz in the UK about Bulgaria and Romania joining the Schenghen and disappearance of the labour restrictions aimed at them was embarrassing as Mr. Hollande’s fogging about his outside marriage fuck. The one and only Romanian job-seeker who appeared in Heathrow on the 1st January only put a crown on this whole tragicomedy and could serve as a perfect metaphor for the ridiculous Western nervousness of the Eastern Europeans. Btw wasn’t it the Western politicians who showed up with the idea of Europe without borders and who accepted all the members to the EU? Then why are we still talking about migration from one country into another one instead of moving of Europeans from one part of the continent to another one?
Of course, i cannot speak for all the people who reside to the east of the German borders but there might be something about it that the sense of freedom (of which free movement of persons is an essential part) and its intuitive protection is more strongly developed in this part of the continent simply because of our recent historical experience with totalitarianism basically all over the 20th century. Last Friday I went to see an extraordinary and very inspirative concert of the Plastic People of the Universe. They performed to commemorate Mejla Hlavsa, their lead singer who passed away a couple of years ago. As I was standing there in the crowded audience next to the discreetly puking guy, I caught myself touched almost the same way like a hipster who just discovered the 14th bean flavour from an underground coffee shop. I realized that if it was just 25 years ago, I would have been beaten up by the secret communistic police waiting outside the club, would have got fired from work and my family and friends would have been bullied for many many years. Simply because Plastic People of the Universe and their music were prohibited, monitored and the members of the band put into a prison repeatedly. However, they never stopped playing and helped the others believe that essential freedom will come back one day. Luckily the day has come and I can listen to any music I want, I can say and write whatever I want…I can travel and move whereever I want. So far.
Aight.
A really good tune after an extremely busy week and weekend at work which was accidentally accompanied by a couple of less or more severe hangovers. The simple bass line leads the rhythm in a very pleasant way and even the falsetto which usually ruins songs for me is somehow fitting well to this track.
You go, grill!
There are situations in our lives when well intended ideas go wrong. The desirable effects of our acts turn into embarrassment. Some of them are everlasting like screwed up and misspelled tattoos, some of them are luckily lasting just for strictly limited period of time. Movember belongs to the latter one - good news especially for guys like Justin Bieber who also fell for the moustache experiment even though the only hairs he can grow are those on his vagina. What bothers me more than Bieber's genitals are current social moods in my homeland which majority of people also try to place to the rank of "well-intended" and which, according to me, can fail as badly as a fucked up tattoo on one's body - just with much worse impacts for all of us. Fundemantal secularism is one of them.
The Czech masses exulted when a director of a Prague highschool "showed balls" and prohibited two muslim girls from wearing the muslim bandanas at school. Allegedly the school rules do not allow any kind of headwear on its property. T-shirts with Che Guevara are ok, a little crosses on your neck are cool, speeches of politicians during school classes are just fine. A bandana on your head as a symbol of your inner believes is a bummer. The question is: was the decision of the school principal a failure of an individual or should we understand it as that the Czech society is not ready for free expression of individual life styles? Do we really want to give up on building a functional civic society and accepting differences among us? Funny thing is reading the discussions under articles covering this issue. Seems like Czech crowd imagines those bullied girls coming to the school with kalashnikovs under their burkas instead of seeing the simple reality: two muslims trying to get their education at a regular public Czech school, breaking nobody else's rights and freedoms, asking for no privileges but wearing hijab - a symbol of their culture without which they don't feel comfortable. I am wondering what could be a better way to integrate foreigners to the majority than this. Putting fences on the borders again so nobody can in and out? What the girls want from our society is exactly what our society demands from the muslim one. Shouldn't we serve as an example then? This unconsidered fundemental secularism is a bigger threat to this country than fundamental islamism. Why? Because in the end it will only turn against us by oppression of our own freedoms. We could have learnt already how fragile they are. Our parents and grandparents fought for them basically the whole last centrury. Lets not let them down.
I might get confused by the lyrics wondering whether it's a pure love song, inner confession or one big metaphore. Nobody can make me doubt though that together with the music and Hozier's voice it's a masterpiece.
Should you have problems detecting quality in the music part of the song, at least enjoy the video by Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson with a clear hint to the bullshit Russian homophobic laws. I could get really political here and start writing about how I don't understand why anybody would express their own insecurity by attacking all kinds of minorities among us but let this post be mainly about the song itself. Which is amazing.

Political menstruation
When I was on my way to work today, it was impossible not to hear two chick girls complaining about menstruation which one of them was just going through. Pure accident wanted it that I got to know how annoying and messy it was this time, sometimes hurtful and what is the worst - there is nothing you can do about it but survive. And soon it'll be back. This girl with raven oily hair and torturing period created an association in my head:
The election campaigns are like menstruation - annoying, messy, sometimes hurtful and it keeps coming back. 70+ year old party leaders style (link) themselves to the role of the biggest legal mass killer of all times James Bond, the same can be seen with three generation younger libertarians (link), meanwhile communists (link) offer time travel trips (to the deep totalitarian past). They all remind me of a man who promises to his mistress to get divorced and ditch his family. Until the wife starts to threaten to leave him penniless and homeless. Then he comes back home with a downcast penis, poorer by a new car and a couple of millions which he left behind during his unfaithful adventure.
One more month to election and this political menstruation is over. Meanwhile happy fall, everybody.
I've been thinking for some time now that there should be a "fresher " version of Hot Chip available on the music market. Well, here it comes: Outfit.
Honestly I am already getting over this whole dreamy/indie soft sounds thing but I'll still give it to these Australian musicians with a pretty weird name - Snakadaktal.

Saving the Presence
I never judge people but there's always an exception to the rule. Nowadays I really do not get what's going on in the UK. Thousands of people and tons of journalists in front of a hospital lie in wait for a girl to show her expected newborn, bet on names which the poor child will get and slowly forget that they actually have their own families which they can spend all this time with instead of behaving like lunatics for someone who doesn't give a shit about them.
This is actually a great example on which to demonstrate the fact that there's been generally a very low demand for one's own life to be lived in the presence. On the contrary it is very common to shed tears for Steve Jobs, send birthday wishes to Madonna and take pictures of everything which is happening around us so we can collect photos for future use meanwhile in future we'll be looking at them and wondering what we did in past. Now where is the presence in this scheme (in our lives)?
Of course, no big drama here. This whole presence issue just got on my mind when I was thinking about the financial/economic crisis again. Accumulated amount of virtual wealth from the past was cruising the global space hoping to run into the best possible interest rates so this virtual wealth grows even more in the future. I cannot help it not to see the following formula:
[(past+future)*virtual life]-presence = bummer
Mild confident sadness..I guess.
