Gerri and Roman relationship is set in defined consent and shifting boundaries. The "norm" does not apply to them but it doesn't mean it's any less appealing or it brings them harm. The beauty of them is the realism with which they navigate it.
Of course they are fundamentally opposite people that truly bring best in each other. The relationship that we will see it's not necessary sexual. The kink worked as a set up but there is more behind it and THAT is something worth exploring. That trust and affection.
The trust between them shifted and now they relay on one another. It's such an organic change between them, regardless of special calls. They are building a bond that is cementing in business and it gave them both relevance. Gerri needs family support for optics and Roman needs someone who sees the bigger picture and is able to stear him.
During the call in episode 2 Gerri was nothing but truthful with Roman, she could have play him or push him but instead she laid the card on the table, narrated the most plausible outcome and then pleaded her case of why he should stick with her, leaving the ultimate decision in his hands.
There is no happy ending in Succession. We all know that. But there is space for genuine connection, which they already have, that could morph into affection.
Bottom line is they work because it's real đ¸
