How to choose a suitable desk lamp for your child?

There’re 3 potential bad influences that traditional desk lamp have on human health: strobe light, electromagnetic radiation and light glare.

  Strobe light

A strobe or a strobe light is a very bright light which flashes on and off very quickly, like incandescent lamp, energy saving bulb lamp. As human’s neurotransmission is slower than optical electricity in flashing frequency, thus we can’t see the flicker of light source with naked eyes. When you’re buying a lamp, put your mobile phone camera close to the illuminant. If the screen shows rolling stripe image, then it turns to be strobe light. Many people think the flashing or blinking does not exist when they can’t see with eyes, yet in fact it is brain’s illusion that we don’t see the strobe. The information of the strobe isn’t transmitted to the brain, so the brain isn’t able to make a judgment about strobe. It is like after watching a traditional movie, many people feel their eyes are very tired. This is because the strobe pictures produced by the high-speed projector make the eyes constantly in motion, resulting in prolonged eye muscle fatigue and a sore painful feeling. That is how strobe light of desk lamp works. Children has a weaker durability of the eye muscle than adults, thus when they study under the strobe light for hours, they may get very tired in the eyes and feel sleepy, which often leads to myopia.

  Electromagnetic radiation

Light glare is very bright dazzling light. In general, teenager is much more sensible to light environment than adults. So never use your experience about lighting when you buy a desk lamp for your child. Light environment of high brightness will make the pupil contract. Contracted pupil shows the eye muscle is in tension. If the eye muscle strength need to be reduced, the light should be dimmer, thus the dilation of the pupil can ease the fatigue.
