I recently have been extremely sad/depressed and often times the only thing that helps me not feel miserable is drawing. As unhealthy as it it, I get really addicted to the praise I get for my art online and it makes me feel reassured in my abilities/motivates me to keep trying and improving myself. I’ve never really put it into words before, but drawing is one of the only things I am good at. When people reaffirm my belief that I am good at drawing, it reminds me that I do have good traits and that I am worth keeping around. Maybe that makes me a narcissist or an attention whore. Both could very well be true. But I love it. Drawing is truly my escape from the real world as corny and childish as it sounds. No matter how upset or sad or tired or lonely I am, I can always fall back on drawing because it brings me genuine joy to both create and share with other people.

I know that I have a long way to go. I am absolute shit at anatomy, drawing backgrounds, proportions, angles, dynamic poses, side profiles, clothes physics, and lineart. But that reassures me too in a way, because it shows me that I haven’t reached my fullest potential. This isn’t my peak, and I can always improve, and if my art can, then so can the way I feel about myself and who I am as a person.
