Hate to be that person, but WW3 trend on TikTok is not funny at all, especially your stupid POVs. Because no, Jessica from Chicago, you wonât have to hide in the basement to avoid being nuked and no, Kyle from LA, you wonât get drafted to the front lines.Â
You again missed the whole point and managed to make this situation all about yourself, so Iâm going to assure your stupid ass - this war is not going to affect you in any way, but you know who itâs going to affect? Actual people from Ukraine, who are going to lose their lives and be displaced from their homes, just like for the past 8 years.Â
So congratulations on your stupidity, because itâs not about âI need a way to cope đĽşđĽşđĽşâ, itâs about you celebrating and making fun of other peopleâs death.

Hey
I graduated my second college with A grade
Three more work projects to go until I finally draw something here
Writing Exercises for Stretching Your Style Muscles
Thereâs a lot of writing advice on the internet, and a lot of writing prompts, but something I see relatively little of is an idea of how to actually practice.Â
The thing about learning a skill is that it requires practice â but practicing will only get you so far if youâre just doing the same thing over and over. you might get better at doing that specific thing, but it can seem really difficult to get over a specific hurdle to accomplish some new thing youâve never tried. I think a really common frustration is wanting to do a thing, and knowing what your end goal looks like, but not knowing actually how to accomplish it.Â
So thatâs where practicing specific skills can really help you to feel more comfortable with your abilities.Â
Here are some skills exercises I recommend experimenting with to gain proficiency and comfort in writing things.Â
ââ
Write the Same Scene from Multiple POVsÂ
Write a scene in 3rd person POV. Then go back and rewrite it from scratch in 1st person. Repeat for a 3rd person omniscient. Go deeper than just swapping out pronouns. Think: How does this scene change if Iâm writing through the eyes of a single character vs over their shoulder? How does this scene change if Iâm narrating the events through Character B instead of Character A?Â
â-
Write a Scene in Present Tense
Present tense bumps up the immediacy level of whatever youâre writing. I think it also helps to break you from more passive sentence constructions. Try taking a scene youâve written and rewrite it in present tense. Combine it with the above â try switching a 3rd person past to 1st person present, or even try writing in 2nd person.Â
ââ
Try Mimicking Another Writerâs StyleÂ
Sit down with a piece of writing from an author you enjoy, and pay attention to the writing itself. Ignore the plot and characters and story elements â look at just the nuts and bolts of vocabulary choices and sentence construction. Try to pick it apart. Is there a specific way the author tends to use commas? Certain words, or types of words, that they use more often? Longer sentences or shorter ones? Longer paragraphs or short? How is white space handled?Â
Study that and make yourself a little cheat sheet if thatâs helpful to you. Then try writing a short piece â just a couple paragraphs, even â in their writing style.Â
â-
Describe an Entire Scene Without Using Visual DescriptionÂ
Imagine youâre writing a blind character, if it helps, or someone whoâs been blindfolded. Describe a whole scene built entirely around the way things sound, smell, taste, feel. Try to make it clear whatâs happening through description alone.Â
ââ
Eliminate All Words like âThoughtâ or âFeltâÂ
Write in deep-3rd or 1st person without any filter words. Make a characterâs opinions and emotions obvious through the way things are being described without explicitly saying what theyâre thinking or feeling. If you struggle with this, it might be easier to start in first person â write as a diary entry or even a Tumblr post from that personâs perspective â and then try it in 3rd person after youâve had a bit of practice.Â
ââ-
Set Yourself a Specific Goal, and Write a Drabble to Achieve itÂ
When I wrote âHappy Ending,â my entire goal was to write something that was highly descriptive in the most viscerally gross way possible. When I wrote âMothman,â it was an exercise in writing something sexualized without explicitly being sexual, in the most disturbing way possible.Â
This is an exercise in word choice. Itâs an excuse to bust out your thesaurus, not to sound fancy, but to nail a specific meaning. Itâs also an exercise in choosing what details to focus on and which to exclude.Â
One way to approach this exercise is to describe something common and mundane that youâve experienced, and write it in several different ways. Letâs say, eating a sandwich. How can you make eating a sandwich sound sexy? How can you make it sound disgusting? Which details do you focus on, and which do you omit? What words do you use to evoke the meaning youâre looking for?Â
âââââââââââââââââââââ
I hope these writing exercises give you some inspiration on things to try out to flex your creative wings a bit!Â
stop telling your teenage daughters who say they don't want kids that they'll change their mind
reblog the shit outta this
I haven't been a teenager in over a decade. Mind has yet to change on the subject.
At 14, I told my guidance counselor that I didn't want kids. He chuckled, patted me on the back, and informed me that when I got a little older, and I was with a guy, I would change my mind.
At 16, my grandmother nearly had a heart attack because of her three granddaughters, myself and the youngest agreed we didn't want to uave babies. Ever.
At 17, my father asked about my life plan. I told him: graduate high school, get my college degree, do some traveling and writing, go for this particular job I wanted, retired around X age, take month-long vacations to places I wanted to spend time in, etc. He asked, "What about a husband? Children? Normal things a girl is supposed to think about?" My response- a husband if a man came along that could share an adventure with me, kids were a No Go. He assured me I would 'grow up' qnd change my mind.
At 19, I shocked my former babysitter who had known me since I was a toddler, when I confirmed the rumour she'd heard that I didn't want kids. She patted my mom's arm and reassured her in a sweet voice that, "Don't worry, girls say a lot of silly things before they meet the right fella, and wise up. She'll give you grand babies"
At 22, I was talking to a college professor who chuckled at my making a comment about how, "thank goodness I'm never going to have to worry about juggling child rearing eith marriage, work, and life", then she realized I was serious. She asked if I was alright, thinking I could-not (not didn't-want) kids. I told her the truth, could have but didn't want to. She was aghast, then told me that I'd change my mind when my husband wanted some kids.
Well, I'm over 30, still have absolutely no desire to give birth, adopt, raise, or have much of anything to do with children. I don't hate children, I don't think people who have them are crazy (more power to you, to create and/or care for another person), and I don't think it's impossible to have a life AND have children. I recognized at an early age that I don't have that biological imperative to procreate, I don't have the patience to deal with children (something that has shown very little improvement as I've gotten older, in fact it might be getting worse), and I don't feel my life is incomplete without creating another life- I am good with living my own and doing my best to enrich the lives of those I care about (I try my best to be a good friend, to be a good sister, good daughter, good pet-owner, and a good person in general).
So please, please stop telling girls (or really kids at all, but especially girls) that they will change their minds. Please don't tell them that meeting 'the right guy' will make them suddenly feel broody, that their potential future husband's desire to have children will make her reconsider and see things his way. For one, a couple should have had that conversation and decided if it was a deal breaker, LONG before they got hitched. For another, it's her body that gets to grow and birth another human being- her husband's desire to be a father doesn't supercede her autonomy.
Please, let girls make their own choices? Girls are forced to mature too fast as it is and are bombarded from all sides with SHOULD (you SHOULD be a size 2, you SHOULD wear this dress, you SHOULD have a boyfriend to be a normal teen, you SHOULD always smile), they don't need another judgement from someone who hasn't walked a mile in their particular shoes. Respect teenage girls and their ability to look at the world, themselves, their situation, and their future, and make an important choice.
*gets off soap box, slides it back under the sofa, lets out a sigh*
Thanks for attending my TED talk. G'night.
!!!
I consider myself lucky because in my close environment no one ever asks me about having children and I don't want them anyway, so I'm glad :) But also it's sad I would be exception and people are being bugged about not having children
This is it, the best news story (from BBC news):
Ok, so here is the croissant that started all this mess:
When asked about what kind of animal might it be, the woman said: "It's this, oh, what is it called... A lagun!"
The devil works fast, but The Krakow Animal Welfare Society works faster:
They already made a merchandise with an illustration of the lagun - they posted information about it on Facebook on Tuesday evening and by the Wednesday morning everything was already sold out.
My university professors are so delighted about this story that they are writing tons and tons of limericks, moskaliks and lepiejs (those two last genres are very popular, ridiculous and humorous types of short poems, in last decades popularized by WisĹawa Szymborska) and posting them on official Facebook pages of our university departments, and I am dying of laughter.
Important update on the story: owners of cafĂŠs and bakeries in KrakĂłw realized that this wonderful idiocy that took over the country could bring them profit and help animals, and started selling croissants labeled as laguns: i.e. Massolit CafĂŠ & Bakery is sending 10% of income from selling laguns to the Krakow Animal Welfare Society. Thankfully laguns are selling like hotcakes and bakeries don't plan to stop making them, so the story that started and could quickly die as just another seasonal nonsense transformed into a tool for helping small, helpless, vulnerable creatures, far less dangerous than vicious lagun.
im Pole and im proud of this one XDDD

Best Writing Advice Ever
Just write the damn thing.Â
Donât worry about literally anything. A n y t h i n g
Just get it written.Â
The rest can be peacefully sorted out later.
Tumblr is my favourite social media site because this place is literally uninhabitable for celebrities. No verification system, no algorithm that boosts their posts, itâs a completely lawless wasteland for them
what's a non-covid reason that you like wearing a mask for? mine is that it hides my mouth-breathing on long flights of stairs
*I can be more anonymous
*people canât see my facial expression
* in times i can hide pimple on my face skin, if I have one
*I donât have flu and all other diseases finally

If you havenât ditched the Amazon-owned Goodreads in favor of the independent, Black-owned StoryGraph, what are you waiting for?
You can import your Goodreads data (so you wonât lose years of book tracking)!
You can get personal recommendations based on your current preferences!
Itâs sleek af!
ITâS NOT OWNED BY AMAZON
Users can apply content warnings so you can avoid triggers before ever opening a specific book
The same applies for âmoodâ! Wanna read something sad? Find books tagged as âsadâ, thatâs literally it
ITâS NOT OWNED BY JEFF BEZOS
Addressing some comments in the tags: Itâs true that the database isnât as vast as Goodreadsâ - yet. The site is much, much newer than Goodreads. But you can actually help them expand!
When you search for a title, you may not find what you need. Then all you have to do is click the handy âCanât find the book youâre looking for?â link, and youâll be taken straight to this page, where you will be able to help them find books to add to their database! If you canât find that non-English book youâre looking for, help them out!
I had no idea it was black-owned! So cool.
Iâve been using StoryGraph for a bit over a year now and I LOVE IT.
Way better review system - you can mark things as quarter stars, you mark moods, slow/medium/fast pace, several things about plot, character, etc.
Tailored searches - you can search by mood as well as set various preferences and then search for matches.
Can add/view content warnings to books - no more skimming reviews and accidentally getting spoilers!
Really interesting and unique reader-created challenges
Tracks more than # of pages/books read - also tracks moods, types of books, length, fast/medium/slow pace, etc.
Also, to address the above comment- it has been about 7 months now since Iâve had to add a book to their database, and Iâve been reading a good mix of old/new/popular/lesser-known/etc. just in the last 3-4 months. The database has grown ENORMOUSLY since StoryGraph first launched and will simply continue to grow the more people use it!
[ID: first image is a screenshot of the front page of StoryGraph, showing a toolbar and 3 book entires. second image is a screenshot of the page on StoryGraph to add a book by filling out the title and author. end ID]
I didnât used any of these sites, I use only polish equivalent of reading sites, but good to know about it!!
