Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
STAY SAFE!! [ID: the Gilbert Baker pride flag with the words âHappy pride to all those who are unable to celebrate openly and safely. You are loved and seen!â in all-caps black text over it. /end ID]
Anders falling to the taint, his body breaking down, and all he can hear is the song. He wants to leave, go to The Deeproads, so that he's not a burden on anyone. Anders staying with Fenris, who carries him everywhere since he rarely has the strength to walk and talks to him all the time but the only time Anders can think enough to realize what all Fenris is doing for him is when his brands are lit because the Lyriun drowns out the calling. Anders the urge to fall in love because it's too late and generous being devoted and loving without knowing that's what he's doing. Anders fighting as long as he can for Fenris. Fenris not knowing how to give up on Anders.
-Anders mustering the strength to cook, something simple, soup, with his skin all great and his hair almost all gone, horrible and skeletal and veiny. Fenris finds him curled up, asleep, barely responsive, against the cabinets, cheeks stained in salt again, with a knife and cutting board on the ground before him because he couldn't stand up and cut vegetables. Fenris thinking he's dead until he picks the too light body up and feels Anders' weak heartbeat and his knobby fingers fail to cling in his clothes. Fenris doesn't know but he hopes and he writes to Merrill that night, she has to know something, she got the taint out of that mirror, maybe she can save Anders. Anders can't eat but Fenris can spoon the broth from the soup into him and he can pretend that Anders is actively cuddling up to him since Fenris starts cuddling with him that night, listening to his raspy attempts to breathe and ignoring the pain of touching him to try to keep him warm.
You know, what kills me? Inquisition.
Exactly 2 solutions that completely make Anders' actions lose their gravity and 1 personal grievance
Rant incoming:
1. In the DLC there are the Avvar. They train their mages by doing exactly what Anders did with Justice: they invite a spirit into their souls, so they can teach them and befriend them, and after they are trained and in control, the spirit would leave them and go back to the Fade.
Now, that kills me, because they could separate Anders and Justice. And Justice knows the Taint. He's seen it in Awakening and lived it while sharing the body with Anders. The Taint is, according to the lore, Fade-originated. Now, if Justice would leave Anders' body with the help of the Avvar, wouldn't there be a possibility for him to take the Taint with him? It wouldn't hurt him, it wouldn't influence the Fade, it would just be.. gone. From that simple act, that to the Avvar is as mundane and routine as cooking a meal.
2. The cure for tranquility. It undermines basically the whole Anders story arch if DA2. Had all of that been known, Anders wouldn't have to blow up the Chantry.
HE'D ASK JUSTICE TO HELP KARL, THEN THE OTHER TRANQUIL. And then, once the looming threat of the tranquility rite is gone, there would be more balance to the sides of the conflict. Possibly the war would still happen, but it wouldn't have been on Anders.
And as much as I believe Kirkwall needs to be destroyed (my head cannon is that this is where Cerypheus and others entered the Fade; based on the notes found laying around) Anders should not have to feel guilty for the casualties.
3. AND NONE OF IT IS ADDRESSED BY ANY WAY AT ANY TIME! Not by Varric, not by Hawke, no by Cassandra, not by Cullen. Just a simple "if it was known, none of the shit in Kirkwall would have happened. Oh, Blondie..." from Varric, even during the scenes where yimou talk to him at that blasted fireplace would have been enough!

i'm reading a book about seventh century northumbria and you've heard of the tiffany problem but let me tell you there is nothing quite like reading through 350 pages calibrating for names like Oswiu and Ăthelfrith and Paeda and Ecgfrith and EanflĂŚd and then getting smacked in the face with the fucking Bishop Chad

In almost 15 years of this blogs existence, I never asked for anything. And I suppose I still cannot ask you for help, because the times are dire and we all have plenty to choose from, when it comes to allocating our means and resources.
The only thing I dare to ask, is to find some time and get to know the story of my friend, Ahmed, who is currently living through the hell of genocide in Gaza. I am not begging for money, even though it is much needed - but I am begging you to hear his voice and share it with people.
Please know his accounts are well verified, and all the campaigns he's linking to are genuine.
You can join his Discord server, Ahmed's Nation, to talk directly to him and his friends.

someone pointed out to me that fenris and zevran are kind of similar, in terms of their history & upbringing, but their personalities are so different for some reason i see them as more dissimilar than alike. do you think they're more alike or different? and in their similarities where do you think they diverge in how they deal with their past traumas?
Hello anon! Thank you so much for asking me!Â
I do feel that their pasts and upbringing are very similar. The way they choose to deal with their personal history and their drama are wildly different.Â
Zevran was orphaned shortly after birth. He was raised in a brothel until the age of seven, until he was bought by the Crows. He didnât join the Crows, he didnât have a choice. If you bring Zevran with you to the Circle tower and into the Fade, you can see a taste of what his upbringing was like. An orphan, raised in a brothel, bought and sold, but Zevran wants to live as much as he wants to die so he tries to be âworthyâ of the Crows. Of the eighteen recruits that went through training with him, only two survived - Zevran, and Taliesen.Â
Fenris was born to an elven slave in Tevinter, and had a sister. By all means, he could have even had a happy childhood. That was all taken from him when he participated in a âtournamentâ to have his mother and sister freed. (âYou said you didnât ask for this, but thatâs not true. You wanted it, you competed for it.â)The reason why he fought was lost to him, and anything that came before. He effectively orphaned himself. His master became his whole world and so Fenris tried to be worthy of him. There were likely many experiments, but only Fenris survived.Â
Zevran throws himself at the Warden because itâs a chance to be free of the Crows. A chance to die and pretend that itâs not the outcome that he wanted. Unless youâre deep into a romance with Zevran, he never talks about what happened to him and how he feels about it. Any companion dialogue that tries to pry into his past and what heâs done is immediately shut down. With humor and jokes, because itâs easier to shift the topic and chuckle than it is to face it. He lies and laughs because he can barely process his own guilt and depression. It takes him so long to open up to the Warden.Â
Fenris wears whatâs been done to him like armor. Besides the fact that thereâs hardly anyway to hide it - itâs literally embedded in the skin. No you can tell, just from the way he is and acts and how heâll openly admit he was a slave. Itâs noticeable in his idle animations, and the way he stands and runs. He is always looking left and right, over his shoulder. Shifting from foot to foot, slightly hunched over so he can reach his sword easier. Heâs afraid. He doesnât trust his freedom, he doesnât trust Kirkwall, he barely trusts himself. The first time you meet him, he runs into that mansion shouting, âface me! Danarius!â As if he isnât scared to death.Â
Zevran doesnât believe himself worthy of love and affection but Fenris craves it like water. Fenris risks everything to find Varania, to find his family. He probably knew, from the moment he first started thinking about finding her, about the risk of Danarius. He states it when he asks Hawke to come along - he believes itâs a trap. But he still goes. Heâs spent so long running and lying to himself that he could take on Danarius by himself, but the only time he ever faces Danarius is to get to his family. This thing that he wants so badly betrays him, gives him up to the monster who tortured him, and unless Hawke talks him out of it, Fenris will kill Varania.
Taliesen was the only other recruit that survived with Zevran. They grew up together, trained together, went on missions together and were close friends. They were likely the only friends they had. Family. The two of them probably got each other through Crow training by support of each other. After a year of being free, of being with the Warden, Zevran faces his one and only friend from his horrible past. If the Warden has shown that Zevran is worth more than his guilt, than his regret, than his past, then Zevran will kill Taliesen.
Fenris fought for his freedom. Tooth and nail, he ran. Looking over his shoulder at every turn, not knowing whether or not the stranger on the street is a hunter or not. Every person is a risk, every connection a chain.Â
Zevran fought for his freedom. He asked for an impossible task, because death is the only freedom he could see. Keeping a knife under his pillow, not knowing whether or not the Warden might kill him. By leaving the Crows, he passed his chain to the Warden.Â
Hawke asks for nothing in return for Fenrisâs friendship. They arenât looking to use him as a bodyguard, a weapon, a mindless beast for their will. They ask him on every job, pay him coin, help him find the freedom heâs looking for.Â
The Warden asks for nothing in return for Zevranâs friendship. They never order him to kill some helpless target, they give him a purpose and sense of will he never had. They ask him to train them, give him gifts, help him find the freedom heâs looking for.Â
Both Zevran and Fenris initially walk away from the romance. Fenris is confronted by the fact that he isnât whole and that the shackles of being a slave still rankle around his soul.Â
Zevran tries to show affection but canât put it into words, canât admit that he is more than a Crow anymore. They taught him not to feel but now he is, and that makes him that orphan again, makes him vulnerable.Â
Zevran laughs through his pain. Fenris wears it on his sleeve. Fenris is angry with whatâs been done to him. Zevran is miserable with what heâs done. Fenris breaks bottles against walls, Zevran attempts to lose himself in pleasure. They both have found some sort of freedom but doesnât know what it means or where to go from there. They want connections but fear them, want to be loved but are afraid of betrayal.
And when theyâve put distance between their past and those who held their chains? They both have dry wit, are extremely clever, flirt with ease and with charm, and are able to be themselves. Hawke and the Warden help them make peace with whatâs been done to them and help them face the future.Â
I find it interesting that they both use the same line when in a romance with the Warden and Hawke -Â âI am yours.â I think it must have stunned the Warden and Hawke at first. Especially knowing their history. But - they arenât submitting themselves back into slavery. They give their feelings willingly because they want to, because Hawke and the Warden have earned it.Â
They are both incredibly complex and layered characters. If they sat down and talked, I think theyâd find they have a lot of common ground.Â
ok this is sick as fuck

One of hundreds of letters sent to CBS after âAbyssinia Henryâ aired 50 years ago today on March 18th, 1975. Many of them were from young children.
Last summer I started working on a project with these letters where I tracked down and spoke to many of the children who wrote them (now in their 60s). The project is on hold until I finish this school year, but I leaving cryptic messages on the answering machines of America's boomers resulted in some of the best conversations I've ever had. I'll keep you updated. I chose to share this image as the letter writer is anonymous.
