Dependency Theory is about how the Global North exploits the Global South. It's tied in with neocolonialism and neo-imperialism. It's basically about how the Global North is enriched by the flow of resources and wealth from the Global South, and how the Global North keeps the Global South impoverished and dependent on them, and how the world system, i.e. capitalism, is set up as to maintain that dynamic.

Think about how a lot of the natural resources in the Global South are controlled by companies based in the Global North, and the way that the Global South often have their resources taken from them for a pittance and later sold back to them at a jacked up price. Or the way foreign aid so often comes in the form of a loan, or how countries in the Global North are constantly meddling in the politics of the Global South.

So much of what we have in the Global North is dependent on the poverty and suffering of those in the Global South, and a lot of people have absolutely no idea that it's going on. And of course, a lot of them do know and work to maintain the system.

And like, when you look at Zood and Zern, the allegory is kinda staring you in the face.
