OHOHOHOOHHHH MONTY LOSING IT AT COMFREYYYYYY
I just finished Cloudward Ho today so my thoughts are a bit scattered on this but I was so excited by a trans woman pc and Olethra was such a joy to watch, and while I do love when a character is just trans and like it’s not really talked about beyond one time and it’s just kind of a trait, she did speak a bit to my own trans experience, I love the idea that the reason she’s so confident and unabashed about her being trans is that it’s another adventure for her, and adventure is everything to her.
She drives forward aspiring to be like an important woman in her life, and her arc throughout of struggling with the image of adventure vs the reality feels to me like it could absolutely have a trans reading to it. In my life, my transition is an adventure, in my mind it’s glamorous and perfect and beautiful and in reality it can really suck sometimes, but when I think about it so far I don’t think about the hard times, I think about the days where it introduced me to aspects of the world and life that were unknown to me that I would never have experienced had I not braved the unknown and kept pushing forward even when the hard parts beat me down. My transition is an adventure, and one I’m grateful everyday that i push onward, past beyond with. Olethra is brave, curious, strong, and sky eyed, and I can’t help but feel that she is the most perfect character to be unabashedly and unapologetically trans.
I also love that she’s a nerdy loser I’ve never felt so represented thank you Ally Beardsley.
