My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.

I hate that the term “pedophilic beauty standards” is being used now like you realize that the people pushing these standards are not *actually* attracted to children right. The reason that “childlike” standards get pushed is because the people that push them want people (mostly those perceived to be women) to look innocent, vulnerable, and easy to abuse. All things that children are perceived to be (or in the case of vulnerability are) because we treat kids like fucking shit. Why are y’all so surprised that people who don’t want people they perceive as women to have autonomy would push standards on them that make them look reminiscent of a group in our society which has little to no autonomy? Can’t be the fault of ageism, no, it must be those nasty sexual deviants.
