The whole plot is sidelined for being mostly about lawson, the plot engaging in a "no true cop" fallacy of sorts. We're asked to forgive two boots so easily for being confused and well intentioned. Janix is way too like earth. In clone wars, the police force was seen as a nuicance, but now, again, there are "good cops" in this show. They try to convince us that True Cops would never contact the empire. It was simply in the robots programming. But if everything is so much like earth here, in a show that was released around this day and age, then robots in the police force are more disconcerting. Two boots hides behind being a nice guy and gets too easily forgiven. Lawson is just a poor cop doing his best with his privelaged son who plays sports.

And Maul? very much an alien minority. Was traumatized and abused by the rich elite. His kind is enslaved. He's queer coded. But he needs to be stopped from grooming the girl into his ideology. So who can stop him? The cop. The "not all cops" cop. The show is hiding its coppaganda behind its sleek "neo noir" label. Disney doesn't want its properties to be about villains, and nobody wants to see maul as what they did to cruella or maleficent, so lets make it coppaganda. Make maul more of a black and white villain in a corrpution arc, romanticize it, and let the cop save the day. We all know he'll be back. The first season was his, after all.
