There's one more thing I love about the sixth Doctor: he puts the entire character of the Doctor in (amazing technicolor) perspective. He's the Doctor, only with the gloves taken off. The sixth Doctor's actions make him look cruel, yet they're in keeping with many of the Doctor's actions we've unquestioningly accepted over the years. The fourth Doctor committing genocide with a quip in "The Horns of Nimon"? The second Doctor sending a fleet of intelligent reptiles into the sun in "The Seeds of Death"? The third Doctor callously gunning down an Ogron in "Day of The Daleks"? The fifth Doctor attempting to murder Davros in "Resurrection of the Daleks"? The second Doctor electrifying a set of doors that will kill any innocents who pass by in "Tomb of the Cybermen"? None are fundamentally different from anything the sixth doctor does yet we're horrified by the sixth's actions (and bad puns) while accepting the others without question. The perspective has been skewed, yes, but only a little - and it's downright disturbing what this perspective reveals about our "hero".
