Firefighters, pilots and equipment operators are mobilized across much of Indian Country in Washington and Oregon, to rein in wildfires that have endangered many tribal communities.

Amidst the powwow season and canoe journey season festivities, multiple tribes are currently being impacted by wildfires, and homes, livestock, pets, and valuables are in danger of being lost.

eunyung takes comfort in the idea that it's simply too hard, so she won't bother trying. a quick scroll through the worse parts of trans social media shows people consoling themselves with the exact same ideas - that they won't pass, or things will be too difficult, or no one will accept them anyway. transitioning will ruin your life, so don't even try. hara is used to this kind of thinking from her mum, and so challenges it easily.

hara puts effort into something eunyung considers unreachable. more than that, it pays off. hara is a judo champion at the top of his game. eunyung hasn't acted (or worn a dress) since elementary school. the calluses on hara's hands show that it's not easy to be the person he wants to be, but he does it anyway. but, eunyung assures herself, thats just because hara and herself are different kind of people

the shine in eunyung's eyes, subtle but present every time she watches hara doing judo, makes it evident she does know why people try so hard. because hara enjoys it - and because hara has the support to keep enjoying it. but that's not how things have ever worked in eunyung's world. hara seems to clock eunyung more or less immediately, and confronts her shortly thereafter. hara remembers when he dropped judo for six months, and how awful he felt. how it felt like he was wasting his life. hara regrets that time more than anything. he doesn't want eunyung to regret anymore of hers. feeling like your wasting your life - like time is slipping away from you, slowly, then all at once - is a very common transgender experience, as we live as people we know we're not meant to be.
