What do today’s libraries do for our communities? It’s a simple question, but one that has more answers than ever before. The services libraries provide now revolve not just around stacks of books, but also around internet connection and cutting edge digital technologies that help people fulfill basic needs and pursue a wide range of interests.

how come the slayer’s always a girl? i don’t know, cause girls are cooler Ladies of the Buffyverse in honour of International Women’s Day, 8 March 2016
Years later, it still fucks me up that the Dursleys treated Harry in a manner that would amount to a pretty open and shut child abuse case.
And no one did a damn thing about it. Massive fail on behalf of Dumbledore and every teacher/adult Harry interacted with in the Muggle world. :(
When I look ahead innocently in a book and accidentally see a potential spoiler
I’m like:
I just wanted to know when the chapter would end! Or how long it was! Noooooooo
Ignore the need to look ahead! Don’t do it!
Ugh I am terrible when it comes to looking ahead. :( It's a bad, bad habit.

Variation on the Word Sleep, a poem by Margaret Atwood
Lovely.
Josephine: The Dazzling Life of Josephine Baker (2014)
“In exuberant verse and stirring pictures, Patricia Hruby Powell and Christian Robinson create an extraordinary portrait for young people of the passionate performer and civil rights advocate Josephine Baker, the woman who worked her way from the slums of St. Louis to the grandest stages in the world. “

i wan these posters.
This book was awesome, y'all should read it. Then find an adult biography about her and read that too. She was a fascinating woman.
is anyone else annoyed by the stereotype that young people’s phones are a loud and annoying device? because i have never heard anyone under 30 who doesn’t have their phone on vibrate. like 100% of the time if the marimba ringtone starts blaring it’s the older generations.
CANNOT REBLOG FAST ENOUGH.
Especially as a librarian, it is ALWAYS an older persons phone making the loud obnoxious rings.
I was never a fan of beards, but then Chris came along and now here we are.Â
I'm pro-beard. Very pro-beard on Mr. Evans.
This is why I am mostly amused at this point by those monthly articles about how dumb libraries are. You can rest assured that if you are in the habit of telling librarians that libraries are dying and nobody uses them anymore, every librarian you talk to is well-aware that you have not actually visited a library in several decades. We are only smiling politely and nodding because we feel sorry for you.

This woman confronts racism in the funniest way possible.
Way to go, girl.

Yes pls.
okay so now that I’ve decided to read at least 1 classic per month… I need to figure out WHAT classics to read! I definitely want to read more Jane Austen, and I have a copy of Jane Eyre that I can read, but I’m not sure what else.
What are some of your favorites?
I suggest Lolita by Nabokov. It’s really well written, and not sexually explicit like it’s been made out to be - at least it wasn’t to me.
oh great idea! I’ve heard so many things about Lolita and I’ve always been curious to read it. Thanks!
No problem! Hope you enjoy it!
Wuthering Heights and A Tale of Two Cities! Two of my favorites.

The most unrealistic thing about Star Wars, a series of science fiction films about magic space priests, is that Padme was 5yrs older than Anakin and didn’t once consider that maybe she could do better.
But he had so many desirable qualities, like hating sand and an untamable space temper.
Also a champion whiner.
