I recently started working at a popular fast food place.

They’re supposed to start you off with training videos, but the computer couldn’t connect to the network, so instead, I learned how to make fries.

Making Fries is a pretty menial task, and after mastering the skill, I learned some new things, like wiping tables and sweeping up trash; my trainer and I even put rags in a washing machine. We watched the sticker machine spit out a few stickers. Those jobs made making fries sound good. I wanted to learn, but the next task seemed daunting: taking drive-thru orders.

My trainer assured me that he wouldn’t make me take drive-thru orders alone, but I was still scared.

My trainer did over half of the button presses because I was unfamiliar with the menu navigation system, but he mostly let me do the talking.
