'minion' -too closely associated with those yellow things
'goon' -linguistic drift gave her a new meaning. i hope her new life is good for her. i miss her.
'henchman' -too gendered. can be shortened to 'hench' in a pinch, but lacks punch.
'servant' -too domestic to apply to all those who serve evil.
'underling, subordinate' -this one only works if they get off on being beneath you and/or you don't properly pay your workers.
'associate' -this one's good for grizzled mercenaries or lone agents but doesn't work good for broad swathes of an organization.
'slave' -same as underling but more intense. really fun for some of the group. unsavory for others in a way that limits the scope of the thing.
'thrall' -only really applies if you're brainwashing them and that's not something i've learned how to do en masse yet
'flunky, toady, stooge, lackey' -these are just insulting, and that isn't conducive to a healthy work environment. imagine going to work and your job title is 'stooge'.
'acolyte' -works for those that worship you, but again. lacks the scope.
'supporter, follower' -unspecific and vague
'assistant, helper, aide' -not sinister at all. just means you're doing things for me. swagless in this manner. could be good if used to describe someone who's so clearly more that as a way to emphasize their obedience via understatement, but that's only useful for a few members of the organization. and even then, 'associate' works better.
'cohort' -untested in the field. suggests an equal footing in the affair, ideal for post-structuralist evil organizations with a bottom-up power structure that's held in the hands of the evil workers themselves. perhaps we'll explore it together?
may I suggest: 'grunt' ā time-tested by crime bosses with a variety of goals and organizational mandates. implies a subservient position with none of the innate baggage of lackey et al.
GRUNT IS PRETTY GOOD
it's totally ok to dislike things. right?
i have to go delete some posts

I love a good HFY / Humans Are Space Orks post, and I think one element of Humans weāre sleeping on is an instinctual understanding of ballistics.
I mean, I get why itās not as popular here on Tumblr dot com, given itās kinda a jock/military adjacent thing, but like. Our ability to just. Pick up a small, firm object, judge its internal inertia and mass by holding it for a bit, and then flinging it with the kind of accuracy and speed Humans are capable of is.
Like thereās another post about how Humans in an alien zoo would probably be breaking out constantly, since we consider escape rooms to be a fun courtship ritual, but
imagine the aliens who are designing the enclosures just so happen to pick up, say, a devoted amateur baseball pitcher. Not even a legend by any means, just somebody whoās practiced with intention. And one day theyāre watching her pass some time and blow off some steam by doing some pitching practice and they realize to their mounting horror that this gal can turn literally anything she can wrap her digits around into a ballistic weapon.
I think we should skip the flirting and go straight to psychological codependence.
Analyzing the politics of a work that's meant to be apolitical is actually a really interesting exercise because it asks you to critically examine what the creator considers to be "political" in the first place. Which ideas are just How Things Are, and which ones are Political, and how is that influenced by the creator's beliefs?
Usually this just ends up with you looking like a moron btw
Angrily lashing out at the suggestion that it's possible to do basic media analysis was foundational to the ragebait ecosystem of the 2010s, from which we got basically the entire culture of modern far right politics, btw.
I genuinely believe myself and others are being so sincere and literal when we say TOUCH GRASS
I went outside and got an education, that's where I learned that you can obtain knowledge and insight through analytical methods, then noticed that some people who sit on the internet yelling at strangers get really mad about that constantly.
So actually if you really wanted to use your analysis skills you'd realize that what people are annoyed about is the implication that there's never a story or creative work they can create that can escape people like you attempting to assign political meaning to it when they just don't want that. That in fact people's presumptions about life are not, in fact, political (at best they are cultural, which is not an inherently facet of politics). And that by you people arrogantly pushing this idea you are intruding on the fact that a lot of people use fiction as escapism from politics and insisting that "urm no actually your favourite cartoon actually has politics cause no human being is 100% unbiased" is in fact, supremely fucking annoying
"Stop having fun wrong, it ruins my fun when you have fun wrong, it's not enough for me to just scroll past the analysis I don't like, if anyone anywhere is saying that the cartoon exists in a political context that's undermining my enjoyment of it!"
That's you. That's what you sound like.
If your "fun" involves deliberately and knowingly doing something that annoys and irritates people then yes you are having fun wrong, its also not just about you doing analysis; if it was just that you can do that in your head, but you don't, you insist upon other people and upon their work when its clearly not welcome or appreciated. Keep your thoughts to yourself
I am talking about posting on my own blog and engaging with posts by others who are doing the same thing, and you are responding to my post. Do you understand the irony of what you just said?
a CEO walks into his office āany messages?ā he asks his assistant ātwo anons want to know who tom petty is and one just says āpost your ballsackāā āgot it. check my dashboardā āthat skeleton gif you like is back againā he rubs his chin pensively āmm. reblog thatā

ābits to use in everyday conversationsā
what if instead of saying something was funny people said it was larry (short for hilarious). "yo that joke was mad larry"
has anyone else noticed that it feels really good to accelerate in a vehicle and really bad, painful even, to hit the brakes
even simply releasing the accelerator is a deeply uncomfortable sensation and should be avoided at all costs
40 is the most natural, most human speed at which to drive through residential areas
literally my dad
āi wish this was in my cart and not someone elseās
you can just take it from their cart. its not their possession if they haven't bought it yet
if i were thrift shopping and you put your hands into my cart to take a unique handpicked item i was intending to purchase i would break your legs

honestly the power and influence of billie piper playing rose tyler. she had both chris eccleston and david tennant wrapped around her finger. her chemistry with both of them is to this day insane. the other actors in doctor who long after her bring her up in conversation and she continues to be brought up in the show. on a zoom reunion, she was snatched up as ācompanion youād want to travel withā instantly. sheās an ordinary girl but thereās no one like her. her arc is so good that they regularly try to recreate or deconstruct it. some of the episodes sheās in are terrible but it doesnāt matter. the doctor loves her so much it both saved him and killed him. multiple times. she lives rent free in every doctor who fanās mind. love her, hate her, or indifferent to her, sheās the basis for comparison. sheās at the tip of the tongue of people who gush about the show and people who complain. billie piper still affirms her unpopular (correct) opinions about rose and the doctor. she was the consistency, the heart, and she redefined the entire fandom.
