I'm just Scott ...

❝I’m not sure, it’s happened before,❞ she said with a shrug. As she listened to his question, she shook her head,  ❝I really don’t,❞ she said with a laugh.  ❝If it’s half as crazy as the things I’ve seen, I’d be surprised.❞

Deshi wasn’t surprised that Scott had forgotten to ask for something as simple as a name. The wolf was more like an excited puppy when he was happy and tended to forget simple things. It was amusing. “Even if she doesn’t come back, at least you had a good night.” It was hard not to question why the Alpha wouldn’t just give the girl his number or even ask her out. Though, he knew how shy the male could be at times.

The Kitsune huffed out a laugh that turned into a chuckle, shaking his head as Scott pointed out how responsible he was being. “Hey. Better than have you become obsessed with the poor girl and following her scent. I guess you did alright for just letting it be.” Deshi leaned over the counter to ruffle the wolf’s hair before settling back against the bar. At the question he just shrugged and looked around the bar to see the few stragglers behind and hummed under his breath. 

“I’ll have a drink while you finish up. Only plans for tonight was to check in on you then see if I can find someone to keep my interest for the night. I guess you’re off the table for tonight, Scotty?” The Kitsune teased with a grin and winked at the brunet.

With a smile on his lips, Scott simply continued to clean up, knowing full well that Deshi was joking about the whole sniffing her out stuff. The hand reaching out to ruffle his hair was proof enough of that. It was pleasant like this, the silly way they would sometimes interact, and if he were honest, it made him feel rather peaceful. It was good to have a friend that he could joke around with but of whom he knew that when he needed it, he’d be there.

Sure, with his pack, Scott had plenty of people he could count on. But Deshi was quite unusual on that end. If he were honest, the wolf had no idea how to even describe their friendship, or what to fully make of it. Nonetheless, he was glad to have him around so often.

Tilting his head, the wolf raised an eyebrow at the fox and stopped for a moment. “Off the table? Depends on the table ...” He mused, smiling a little as he returned to fishing wiping the counter. “Depends on the plans ...” He added as he grabbed a glass and walked over to the taps to fill it for the other.

Most older brother’s would not continue to hang around their little sister’s ex. For Deshi, Scott seemed to be an exception. Maybe because back when he was dating Kira, the fox was forced to hang around him more often than not. Also, it wasn’t like things ended horribly. They both just realized that they grew away from each other. Plus, there was a part of the Kitsune that felt the need to protect the wolf.

Which meant he was actually surprised when he walked into the bar and saw the Alpha happier than usual. It was nice to see Scott happy but he was definitely curious on the reason. The older male just raised a brow in amusement and hide to bite his tongue in order not to burst out laughing. Deshi may not believe in the whole relationship thing or feelings but he knew better than to ruin the wolf’s mood. 

“Her smile huh? You happen to get a name, Scotty? Or are you just hoping she found that crooked grin adorable enough to come back?”

Tilting his head, Scott raised an eyebrow at the fox, before shaking his head. “I didn’t ... it didn’t seem to matter.” He spoke, still unable to help the giant smile on his lips as he watched the other man. “But I mean, she did seem to like me so, maybe she’ll be back yea, I have no expectations.” That was another new feat really. Normally Scott would like a guy or a girl and be pretty hopeful to see them once more, wondering when they’d walk through that door again. Right now, he was ... pretty good actually.

“Listen, it’s what it is. It was someone new, it was a great talk and there aren’t really any plans. If she comes by again, we’ll see ... and if not, then so be it.” He shrugged as he leaned against the table he’d been cleaning. “Aren’t you proud? I’m being a very responsible wolf right now~” It was a joke of course, it wasn’t as if Deshi had to approve of the things he did, but he did actually care a lot about what the other thought, maybe sometimes too much. Then again, he’d always been prone to overthinking the reactions of others, hadn’t he?

“So, want a drink? Or did you have other plans for tonight?”

It wasn’t every day that Scott was in a mood like he was today. Sure, he wasn’t generally a sad guy, but today he felt exceptionally good. He was closing off the bar as usual, and hummed softly to himself, not really worried about the exam he had next week, or about hunter or anything at all. 

It didn’t even bother him when the all too familiar fox walked into the bar and joked about how happy he seemed. Glancing up at the other, he simply chuckled and shook his head. “Well, no specific reason but ... I met someone new last night, and I don’t even know her name. But, ... something about her smile just ... kept me listening.”

Deshi grimaced at Scott’s words. The wolf wasn’t the first person who had mentioned how inconsiderate he could be. It wasn’t that he meant to be like that it was just easier to ignore emotions if he was a smart ass. “I’m working on being… nice. I didn’t mean to upset you. I just don’t… Don’t get how everyone feels about things like relationships. I’ll learn how to shut my mouth every once in a while.”

With a soft sigh, Scott looked at him and shook his head. “Listen, I know ... I get it. But you know relationships are a big deal for me, or you should by now so ... just try to keep that in mind instead of making fun of it all the time.” He didn’t hold it against Deshi, he knew the kitsune well enough after all. But sometimes, he just didn’t have the energy to deal with the jokes and smile as if nothing bothered him. Not when he struggled almost daily. 

It was clear that Deshi had hit a nerve with Scott and this wasn’t how it was supposed to go tonight. The puppy energy he was used to feeling from the wolf was no where to be seen and it was concerning. Sighing heavily, he downed his whiskey and set the glass on the bar. “Do you just want to punch me and get it over with? Or do you want me to go drop you off in the woods? Your choice, I just don’t know what else to make you stop being so grumpy and pissed at me.”

something you hold onto 

you hold onto love like it's anchoring you to earth, and maybe it is. but why is that? do you fear that one day all this love you've found will somehow disappear, or that one day someone will just decide you don't deserve it? what if i told you that all this love isn't finite, that no matter who you are and who you become, love will always exist for you in so many forms. it will find you regardless of how worthy you think you are of it, you don't need to hold onto it so tightly out of fear of it leaving. you don't deserve to be abandoned, i'm sorry if love ever taught you that you deserving of that. but real, sincere love won't abandon you. the people who love you? they really do really love you, they aren't lying. and you can continue to hold onto this love, just trust that you don't have to grip it so tightly.
