Ms. Choo was the only trans member of the board, and she was kicked out because her proposal to have the organisation visibly and uncompromisingly support trans rights was too unpalatable to the Australian queer "community." To make it worse, she and the other board member who was just removed have continually campaigned to ban politicians, cops, and corporations from participating. Mardi Gras let the prime minister march in 2023. His government refused every single one of the UN human rights recommendations on LGBTQIA+ submitted to it this year. Trans rights in Australia are only going to get worse over the next few years. If One Nation starts winning elections, we're fucked. Even if they don't, Labor are too spineless to risk supporting us at all. Now is the time to help the organisations that do actually support trans people here, so we can hopefully mitigate whatever additional harm is about to come our way.
