one of the fantasies of vc is, i think, that if there was enough time we all could be forgiven and any relationship could be repaired. if you had literally forever with the people you love relationships could be operable again.. mothers and sons could forgive each other and even stop being to each other the thing that hurts them the most, mothers and sons, old lovers and friends and father figures and abusers could stop representing the pain they once had. and sometimes even though the forgiveness can’t be given, if the betrayal is too big and the wound too ever present, the love can become bigger than the hurt. and sometimes there are ghosts too but not all of the time. the rules about that are never made clear

okay so the thing about iwtv 1976 is (and i’ve made and deleted this post already tonight): if louis and lestat were a heterosexual couple there would be no question whatsoever about the nature of their relationship within the novel. what they have going on in the book is so barely even subtext. they don’t have penetrative intercourse on the page because it’s a gothic horror novel written in 1976, when homosexual sex acts were still largely very illegal throughout most of the country, and that’s also Not The Point of the story. but they Are explicitly a gay couple within the book. it’s just show not tell.

also: they have lesbian sex on page instead
