neil knows that it’s silly, perhaps, that he knocks on aaron and nicky’s door. nicky is out with his classmates, and andrew has made multiple comments about how aaron’s probably drowning himself in energy drinks and studying for an exam that is not for another three months.
he knows from matt and dan that couples give each other things on their anniversary. it’s coming up on two years since he and andrew first kissed, and while they don’t do something as frivolous as celebrating anniversaries or calling the other their boyfriend, he wants to do something. something that is normal. something that he can give andrew to show he is definitely staying.
he can’t ask andrew, but there is someone resembling andrew enough to maybe know what he can give andrew as gift. neil is a big enough person now to go to aaron, and not trade unnecessary insults with him. if aaron begins, he happily returns the words. not right now, though. he wants information from aaron.
“what.” is aaron’s flat reply when he opens the door to find neil there.
“what did you get katelyn for your second anniversary?”
aaron narrows his eyes, looks neil up and down even, before sighing and motioning for neil to get inside. neil does so, keeping his eyes trained on aaron. not that he expects aaron to attack him, but if aaron immediately runs to get andrew, he has to tackle him.
“why do you want to know?” aaron asks, locking the dorm door. neil frowns at that, but maybe it’s a precaution so andrew will be stalled if he goes looking. “i hope you’re not planning to get kevin a gift for recruiting you.”
neil huffs. “very funny. i want to give andrew something.”
he is going to behave. he is not here to trade insults with aaron, because he wants to know what to get andrew. even if the look on aaron’s face makes him insultable. is that a word?
“an anniversary present.” neil says through gritted teeth.
aaron, the asshole, has the nerve to laugh. “shouldn’t you ask andrew what he wants? if he even wants something like that.”
“i want to let him know i’m definitely here to stay.” seriously, why is aaron not taking this seriously at all?
“doesn’t he know that already? you stayed when you could’ve run away again, he knows. besides, the gifts i get my girlfriend are not the kind of things you get for andrew.”
