i can't wait for school to start again. i can't wait to go back-to-school shopping and start having a purpose again. something to work for. i hate waking up at noon and getting on my phone all day, i'm trying to love summer but we haven't really done much and honestly it's just more of my parents barking at each other and me being stuck in the house. i'm glad i at least have something to look forward to, and i'm joining a lot of clubs and activities to stay out of the house longer.

let me bring forth the example of Cuba. Cuba is a socialist state. authoritarianism aside, Cuba historically performs better in literacy, infant and maternal health, life expectancy, sustainable development, and healthcare. it's still a poor country, absolutely. but there is virtually no homelessness in Cuba at all, and 85% of the population own their houses with no mortgage interest or property taxes. in 2019, the government reported an increase in public sector wages of roughly 300%, particularly for teachers and healthcare workers, and they continue to rise.

with the money that america has, imagine where we could be as a communist state. i'm not saying we have to become communist; it'd never really happen. i'm just saying that i don't support an economic system that would allow anyone, under any circumstance, to go without basic needs for survival. the current administration seems set on that outcome, actually, with food stamps being cut while the costs of living skyrocket and RFK screams his head off about "real food" when he's the only one that can afford it. homeless people can't get a job because they have to steal to live and rich people call the cops on them for existing in public areas. nobody can get a job, actually, because the job market is fucked sideways and even if you can get a job, you're gonna have to work six doubles this week in order to afford food and housing for you alone, god forbid you have a child or a pet!

i find myself feeling a little stuck these days. i want to experience everything; learn every subject, watch every film, hear every song, meet every person, go every place, conduct every experiment, teach every child, master every skill, learn every language, feed all the hungry and end all the wars. it is such an intense yearning that i do not know where to begin. i don't even know if i should, but then again, i can't just live a life that is planned out for me. i could never. i just want to see the world, i want to make it more beautiful than it already is. humanity is so complex and grey, i just want to know and see it all.

Brittany Tomlinson: "Art---specifically live theatrical art, like the opera, ballet, live theatre, Broadway, whatever... There should not be a barrier to entry on live art. Okay? There's a class war going on... Honestly, trying to get these ballet tickets, like it should not cost an arm and a leg. And it's also a big ass, stupid ass dumb ass New York red flag when you go and it's all old people in the audience. Because they are the only people that can afford those tickets. It is so upsetting. And I think ballet is such- it's an art form that needs to be preserved."

i've been trying to get into ballet since the beginning of the school year and it is so hard. i'm not skinny or pristine or feminine, nor have i been doing it since i was a literal toddler. theatre and dance should not be sports for the elite athletic and rich. art forms like these not only do need to be preserved, but they need to be accessible. i think that does start with being able to see it live, as that inspiration doesn't come from thin air, but also being able to learn it.

FINALLY THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL OMG. finished all my classes with above 90%. i'm also sad though because i won't be able to see any of my favorite teachers for another 3 months #gonnacry. speaking of which i motivated myself to study by picturing my ASL teacher holding me at gunpoint and then making myself laugh so hard i had to draw it. it hasn't really sunk in that it's summer yet. this blog will probably be going on hiatus until like beginning of august when i'm about to start school again. or maybe i'll continue posting on self-improvement in general? i haven't decided. this summer i am the patron saint of my own metamorphosis; i will craft my best self with my bare hands.
