an important post about the romanticisation of the USSR and communism.
So what kind of vibe would you get from being there?
Hunger, prison, deportations
Easy access to food? clothes you like? travel?
Sex education? LGBTQ+? Safety?
Remember that you have nothing of your own. Do you even deserve it?
and more
Romania wasnât communist. It was a dictatorship
North Korea isnât communist. itâs a dictatorship
The other good countries that actually showed what communism is were destroyed by capitalism and the USA. Like whatâs going on in Cuba in this MODERN AGE and nobody is talking about it.
Ofc communism isnât gonna work if the USA and capitalism still exist. Due to Cubaâs âevil communistâ ideology made the literacy rate from <76% to 96%. Almost entirely ended poverty in the country before the USA screwed them over and much more
friendship is communism!
I think a lot of the problems in the word stem from people confusing capitalism and communism.
âBut in a communist society you would be poor and someone else will get your hard earned money! You might starve or freeze or be homeless!!â
So close darling, actually thatâs capitalism.
âCapitalism is good because everyone gets what they earned and deserve!!â
Wrong again, thatâs communism. Because everyone deserves the same. Everyone deserves to be able to live from the money they make. Everyone deserves a stable income.
âIf we were in a communist society people would get lazy and donât work hard enough anymore, but get their money anyways, thatâs unfair!â
My sweet summer child. Thatâs capitalism. How hard do you think your boss is working for double the money you get.
âBut theyâll take away my hard earned money!â
You work a 10h day with 7⏠Minimum Wage. They already do.
âBut what if the system is corrupt and some people get more money than others! What if few people on top of the chain, who are supposed to make sure everyone gets enough money hoard all the money and we donât get enough to live anymore!!â
Iâm gonna hold your hand when I say thisâŠ.
âBut the Soviet Union is a perfect example why communism is bad!!! Donât you know history?!!!â
Stalin was a fascist and late state capitalist. The Soviet Union failed at being communist and instead turned capitalist the moment people on top started hoarding money and letting others starve. That was capitalism. The Soviet Union was just incredibly harmfully capitalist wirh a few extra steps.
Please listen to me.
People with less money than you arenât trying to take your money.
People with more money are.

If you are anti-capitalist
1. Start a garden
It doesn't have to be a big garden. You don't need a full on green house. But start growing vegetables and spices. Start with cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. Learn about what grows locally to you and when, and plant them. Expand over time and grow more plants. Consider becoming vegan or vegetarian as well so you can rely on your own garden rather than grocery stores as much as possible.
2. Learn herbal medicine
Learn what plants have what physical and medicinal benefits. Aloe vera is good for burns. Chamomile is good for insomnia and inflammation. Star anise is good for coughs. Calendula is good for small wounds. Ginger is good for nausea. Learn all this stuff! These are all things you can grow for yourself in your garden and benefit from
3. Learn to sew
Sew your own clothes! A lot of clothes in stores now are very low-quality. They are created to deteriorate and break easily and quickly so you have to buy more. So learn to sew your own clothes (bonus points if you learn to dye your clothes with natural ingredients like woad or safflower). If you have kids, sew their clothes as well
4. Use cloth diapers and reusable wipes
If you have a baby, don't buy diapers and wipes. Use reusable ones. Diapers can cost $1000-1300 in a year but you can get cloth diapers for $300-400 that can last you through your baby's first years and can be used for all of your kids. (Just to put that into perspective: if you have three kids, you would be spending roughly $6,000-7,800 on diapers compared to maybe $800-1,200 if you replace old ones. That's a lot less money given to capitalist companies). Breastfeed if you can as well. Breast milk is free, whereas you can spend upwards of $1200 on formula in the first 6 months)
5. Buy anything second hand if possible.
Look for anything you need second hand if you can before buying from a retailer. This is pretty self-explanatory. It also reduces waste so double win
If you are anti-capitalist, put your effort into being self-reliant and not needing as much support from companies. It's not easy and it requires consistent effort but it is incredibly worth it
Edit: by self-reliance, I only mean from corporations. We should not be individualists. We should be helping each other and sharing resources and skills, like food from our garden or hand-sewn clothes. I recognise that we cannot all have mastery in all necessary skills. The point I was making is to learn the skills you can to not rely on companies for survival, not to rely entirely on yourself
Okay So I was thinking and I think and if I was ever to do a Worm rewrite fanfiction (which will never happen because whenever I try to write anything resembling a story I become five years old mentally) these would be the things that I changed:
By all rights Taylor should be more leftists in nature, what with her being the child of a man that is a leading member of a dockworkers union and a woman who was part of a radical feminist movement and only really left because things started getting a little terrorist-y in tone. Iâm not saying she would be screaming marxist theory from the rooftops or anything, sheâs like fifteen after all, but the influences SHOULD be there.
I imagine that how this would play out, beyond Taylor being raised in such a way by two loving parents, is that after her motherâs death Taylor looks for any possible way to connect to her mother after death. She plays her motherâs flute (that will later be broken) to hell and back, practices on her motherâs piano, and most importantly reads her motherâs literature.
Rosa Luxemburg, Franz Fanon, The Communist Manifesto, etc. She would read all of these things from a sense of grief, and her general enjoyment of reading, internalizes a LOT of it. Combine her motherâs more intellectual concept of politics and the rage she inherited from her father and that creates some interesting possibilities for Warlord Taylor down the line.
I would also get rid of the romance between her and brian. I love the two characters and individually they are great but as a couple I find them improbably banal. Instead I would make Taylorâs romantic interest be Lisa (hell yeah smugbug). It goes without saying for a lot of people but Lisa and Taylorâs whole thing is so good that I just go rabid everytime.
To further this I will say that Taylor, when she was younger, had a very deep crush on Emma that more or less bordered on genuine love. So when Emma goes and stomps all over that it breaks Taylorâs heart in a slightly different way.
So, when Taylor decides that she canât fight back, while the canonical inner excuse that it wouldn't be right, she also simply canât bring herself to do it because itâs Emma. Also, I think this can help Lisa and Taylor grow closer with Taylor confiding More in the blond and Lisa, in turn, confiding more in Taylor. So, when the conflict with Coil comes to a head Taylor isn't simply just fighting to save Dinah, sheâs also fighting to free Lisa from Coilâs entrapment.
(Also, just a small little tidbit: I like the idea of Taylor being fluent in French. Her father's last name is French in origin and Annette's name is also French in origin so I think it would be amusing if that was just a little thing she could do. Hell Alec seems like the type that would know French for some reason so maybe they communicate in only French during a team up.)
When the slaughterhouse nine comes around and chaos is being spread I feel that I would let Danny learn that Taylor is in fact skitter, and due to small changes in actions and general perception he gives his approval and says heâs proud of her.
Personally Iâm debating on whether or not it should happen (ultimately up to whoever takes up this monumental task) is that during Coilâs attempt at taking over Danny is killed in the explosion at the mayoral debate. This is to further radicalize Taylor into her warlord-ing activities but I can also see a lighter version where Danny is simply paralyzed from the waist down.
This also brings me into: Ward Taylor would be cut. In general I am not a fan of it and instead I would keep Taylor a Warlord over Brockton Bay (let Skitter be the bond villain she was always meant to be damnit, lol). Seeing her actually cultivate that actual position would be incredibly satisfying.
She is ultimately authoritarian but it is undeniable that she is also helping the people. The situation in Brockton slowly becoming better over time with Skitterâs actions, with leftist tactics being implemented- if with Taylorâs own personal biblical flair.
And of course it would have a happy ending, still the end of the world as we see in Ward but I feel like it would be to a lesser extent. Itâs more of a happy ending for the undersiders honestly, them in the distance while smugbug raise their adopted kids while being gang bosses.
I am unsure how to properly implement it but I would like For Taylor and Lisa to grow closer to Aiden (and the rest of the chicken tenders). With them, over time, becoming his adoptive parents- Unofficially and then officially.
