I just realized something that has me feeling all kinds of ways.

Looking at this gif set I realized, there’s a shot that I’m kind of surprised the show didn’t include, in retrospect.

Let’s go through the boat scene above: Robin dives in. Cut to a wide shot of Eddie cursing in the boat (3 seconds). A mid shot of Eddie throwing up his hands and standing up, saying “this is so stupid” (3 seconds). Back to our wide shot where Eddie dives in even as he continues to repeat “this is so stupid” (3 seconds).

I just realized, they could have included a close-up on the boat’s motor. But they didn’t.

It would reinforce Eddie’s character arc, after all, to show his focus shift. To show him making that decision, maybe a close-up on his face as he agonizes over what to do.

Eddie could leave. He’s got the means to escape. But he doesn’t even spare it a glance.

There’s not a single moment of silence from the moment Robin hits the water, no moment of reflection. There are less than ten seconds between Robin and Eddie hitting the water, and what the cinematography tells is, he never even considers leaving. The second Robin does her backwards roll, Eddie already knows he’s following her.

“Not a hero,” he says. Yeah, ok.
