Tumblr works in progress (Steddie)
#wedding dj eddie: currently posting on tumblr out of chronological order, to be posted on AO3 when finished.
#counter stalking fic: DDDNE (noncon and dubcon, drug use, psychopath Steve Harrington, aftermath of Steve's SA). Extremely dark. Eddie hates Steve but stalks him to satisfy his curiosity. He finds he's bitten off more he can chew when Steve quickly becomes obsessed with stalking him right back.
AO3 works in progress (Steddie)
What Did You Think We Were Doing?: 124k, E (fake dating, sexuality crisis). Steve asks Eddie to pretend to date him to teach his parents a lesson. Eddie is devastated to find out they werenāt dating already.
Unmet Needs Forty Ways: 11k, E (orgasm control, BDSM lifestyle). Post-breakup with his lifestyle Dom, with no one left to impress, Eddieās life is in total freefall until he hires life coach Steve to unknowingly stand in for his need for constant supervision.
Fuck Me Like You Love Me: 3k, E (hate sex/not actually unrequited love). Steve underestimates how easily Eddie can accommodate a request in the bedroom.
Hoarders Universe: 3k, aged up, questioning sanity). A concept fic. In 2012, Steve is practically the last man living in Hawkins, surrounded by hoarded items scavenged from the abandoned homes of his neighbors. As a reality TV crew films, the Party works to clear the hoard while stopping Steve from revealing what really happened to the town, and the impossible hope that kept him from leaving for all these years.
My finished works
Will presumably go here, someday.
About me:
My first fandoms included HP, Starkid, and SuperWhoLock, and I first joined Tumblr in 2010. Then, in 2014 when [TRAUMA DUMP REDACTED], I fell off the internet and lost touch with my fandom roots. (Please forgive me if I internet like a millennial, I'm flying blind here.)
I'm nonbinary/genderfluid. I was on T for 6 years and stopped in 2018. I use any pronouns but mostly present femme these days
My main fandom now is Stranger Things. I've been a superfan since season 1, but only found my way back to fandom when ST4 came out, and I'm so glad I did.
I was diagnosed with ADHD recently at 31 and am still trying to figure out how to manage that. I have a hard time posting works with any consistency, but people interacting with my work really help keep me motivated. If you're anxious for an update, a comment or message would truly mean the world to me.

I am here to tell you in a society that is fast becoming more conservative and closed off, you should write more smut and kink and weird shit. Even if you think no one will read it. Even if you think it has no value because itās ālow browā you should still write it! We need you now more than ever!
Need a game that's actually built around tanking as the main combat style. Not a game where you can, strictly speaking, build a character as a tank.
A game where the systems are built from the ground up assuming that you, the player, will be putting yourself in front of world-ending threats, standing up straight, and blocking the enemy.
Not dodge-rolling, not skipping around going "tee hee hee i'm a lil guy you can't hit", blocking.
And not as a disappointing alternative to a damage build!
Need the CLANG of the enemy's attacks against armor, need clear sound and UI design that communicates "here's how much damage you DIDN'T take, you absolute badass", need a little gaggle of frail party members trembling in fear behind me as the extreme aura farming of walking up to a dragon and putting my entire shield in its mouth inspires them to fight on.
#last edition important too#between battles should be a lesbian dating sim
Bonding more strongly with your polycule of cute DPS and healers makes your brave words of encouragement in battle act as a stronger performance multiplier, increasing attack and spellcasting speeds. Blocking a really big attack makes them go "I have to do my best too, she's counting on me!!" and unleash extra strong spells so you'll be proud of them.
Eddie gets thrown in the back of a police car and - āOh. Hello.ā
The hottest stranger Eddie has ever seen is slouched against the far side, eying him like heās at least interesting. Thatās promising.
Eddie waves one cuffed hand at Hot Guy and then tips his imaginary hat. That got an eye roll from Hot Guy but he can work with that, āYou come around here often?ā
A snort, but not an ignore. Good.
Eddie settles into his seat before asking, āWhatād you do to piss off the fuzzā¦?ā
āSteve,ā He eventually responds. āAnd fraud.ā
āFunny and cute,ā Eddie grins. āDangerous combination.ā
That got a smile out of Hot Guy - Steve - and he leaned closer. Definitely flirting back, āYou think Iām cute?ā
āI think-ā
āHey!ā Hopper snaps from the driverās seat. āHow about you donāt flirt with my son in the back of a squad car? Heās a kid.ā
Steve rolls his eyes, flops back against the seat, and bemoans, āIām sixteen, Hop.ā

are you telling me americans have stores that open up SPECIFICALLY for halloween and just. dont exist any other time of the year. you people are insane
Imagine an empty storefront. Some business that closed years ago. The building stands empty, unused for literal months. And then boom. Fall comes around and thereās a Spirit Halloween. Thereās no escape.
Wait, so during non-halloween they are just empty? Like, they donāt switch between seasonal decorations (like christmas, easter, etc), they justā¦close and wait for next year???
Yeah, itās not a permanent store. A company will rent an empty building for the 2-3 months before halloween, sell halloween stuff, and then clean everything up and disappear until the following year. And theyāll usually set up in different buildings from year to year. They just find any good-sized empty store space that will give them a cheap, short-term lease.
Itās so temporary that the halloween stores donāt even have a real sign, they just hang up a banner outside:
Oh also half the time it's in the empty shell of a now-defunct store that used to be a local fixture. And you walk in and have to mourn Joann's Fabrics all over again.
Lawyer!Steve AU where he works at his father's firm and gets handed all the pro bono cases because he's the only one that actually cares about these people's fates and wants to help them if he can.
One day, his dad hands him a murder case; not his first one, but not the kind of case they usually accept pro bono. Too much work to be done for free, his father had said once. So, imagine Steve's shock when he opens the case file and sees that their client is being accused of murdering a young woman.
Edward Munson, age 29, mechanic, is being accused of murdering Chrissy Cunningham, age 27, in the woods next to Forest Hills Trailer Park, Hawkins. Chrissy was stabbed six times in the chest, bleeding to death in minutes. There were no witnesses to the crime, but the murder weapon was found close to Munson's trailer.
And that's it. No more evidences, nothing else to confirm anything; just a weapon found close to where their client lives and the police thought it would be reasonable to arrest the man and lock him up for, oh my God, the guy's been in jail for six fucking months already.
Steve spends two days going over every single piece of paper, every single document in the file. When he's sure he's got everything analyzed at least twice, he takes his things and drives to the detention center his client is being held.
It takes Steve five minutes to find out that Munson isn't very cooperative, and five more to find out that he's an asshole.
Steve tries to talk to him, tells Munson he thinks his case is not hopeless, that he thinks the accusation is weak and that maybe he can convince the judge to at least accept to change Munson to house arrest while he waits for his trial.
Munson doesn't say a word. He stares at Steve with blank eyes and doesn't open his mouth once.
After Steve finishes explaining everything, Munson asks, "Are you done?"
When Steve says yes, Munson just says, "Good," then gets up and asks the guard to take him back to his cell.
This shocks Steve so much he stays there for a minute too long, staring at Munson's empty seat as if doing it would bring the man back somehow.
Then, comes the anger, and Steve stomps out of the detention center slamming the door behind him.
Steve goes back to the firm and starts studying the case all over again, looking for things that he might have missed. He calls the police and tries to talk to the officer who arrested Munson, but he's informed the man doesn't work for the Hawkins Police anymore. When Steve asks for the man's address, the receptionist tells him the man left Hawkins with his family a couple of months ago.
This rings an alarm in Steve's mind, his instincts telling him there's something wrong with the case.
He drives to the detention center again the next day and Munson is just as uncooperative as before; He lets Steve talk and talk, then gets up and leaves.
It's infuriating, especially because Steve knows there's something very, very wrong there. The lack of a real case, the missing cop, Munson's arrest under weak, almost inexistent evidences that links him to the crime. It's all very shady and weird and full of holes and Munson's apathy makes no sense at all.
Steve's dealt with criminals before, it's his freaking job to do so, and Munson's behavior just doesn't fit the description. Criminals usually use every single chance they have to convince everyone of their innocence; they cry, they lie, they do anything they need to get out of jail, but Munson does nothing of the sort.
His apathetic behavior is what makes Steve believe the man might be holding something back. Because it's not even as if Munson was admitting he's guilty and resigning himself to his fate. Not even that. He acts as if he doesn't care about what happens to him, as if trying wouldn't change anything, so he just doesn't.
But, well, if Munson can be stubborn so can Steve. Steve starts going to the detention center almost daily.
The first week, Munson keeps the blank attitude, never saying anything and barely looking at Steve at all.
By the second week there's a change. It's small, but it's there. When Munson sees Steve there, he can't hide his annoyance anymore. He still refuses to acknowledge Steve's attempts, but it's clear the lawyer is getting under his skin.
This just makes Steve double his efforts.
By the fourth week Munson finally snaps. When the guards bring him to the room where Steve is waiting for him, he's barely sitting on the chair before he's snarling, "Why the fuck are you still here? What do you want??"
Steve doesn't flinch. "I want to help you," he says.
Munson scoffs. "A pretty boy like you, helping trailer trash like me? Yeah, that sounds reasonable."
And, see, Steve could just give up. He's not really getting paid to do any of this, his father gave him this case because he loves fucking with him and handing him cases he considers lost causes just to see Steve fail. But his damn insticts keep telling Steve there's more to it than what the files are telling him, that Munson knows things that can change everything.
Even more, he knows that by giving up he'd be doing exactly what his father expects him to do, and hell will freeze before Steve gives his dad this satisfaction.
"Wanna know why I'm doing this?" Steve asks then, and the slight anger in his voice catches Munson's attention.
He doesn't answer, but he does raise his eyebrows in interest.
"Because my father gave me your case expecting me to fail," Steve admits, leaning forward on the table separating the two of them. "He loves doing this, giving me cases he thinks I can't handle just to show me I'm the same useless kid who could never meet his expectations. But guess what, your case is not a lost cause. It's full of holes and the ends don't meet. I know I can get you out of here, but you need to talk to me and tell me what really happened the night Chrissy was found dead close to your trailer because, if you don't, the police's side of the story is gonna be the only side of the story. Are you really gonna let them dictate what's true or not?"
It works.
Steve can't quite believe it, but his little speech fucking works. There's a glint of amusement in Munson's eyes, as if only then he's seeing Steve and considering his words for real. His lips curl up the tiniest bit, as the man finally relaxes on his chair.
"An asshole father, huh? I can relate." Pale fingers toy with the chain linking his handcuffs to the table for a moment, before Munson looks Steve in the eye for the first time. "Do you really wanna know what happened that night?"
"Yes, I do."
"Fine. Then I guess I can cooperate with you, Mr. Harrington."
Steve makes a face, distate clear as day. "Mr. Harrington is my father. I'm Steve."
Munson grins at that. "Okay, Steve. I'll tell you my story, and then you see what you can do with it."

And then everything stopped.Ā
The wind and laughter ceased making noise, leaving a gaping silence that set off Eddieās nerves. He turned to look behind him and saw a man standing in front of Billy, a strange expression on his face. He was wholly unfamiliar to Eddie, his blond hair and blue eyes unrecognizable, and yet there was something about him that set Eddieās teeth on edge.Ā
Eddie watched in horror as the man grabbed ahold of Billyās anchor and yanked on it, tugging mercilessly until is pulled free from its place in Billyās chest. Without the anchor to keep him grounded, Billy began to float, slowly passing through the ceiling until he was out of sight.Ā
The strange man then turned to Eddie, who immediately backed away. The man offered a smile, but it gave Eddie no comfort.Ā

Edmund turned back towards Prince Stefan after a nudge from Gareth the pony.
āPlease sire, come back once the rooster has crowed itās final crow, and the moon has risen upon the nightly splendors of the fae. Then you may have your way with me without any equine witnesses to our couplings.ā
āHow wonderful!ā The Prince exclaimed. āI shall be here at nine oāclock promptly.ā
Later that night, Edmund sighed and checked his pocket watch. The ravens had already begun their nightly watch over the hallowed halls of evening, surely the prince couldnāt be fifteen minutes late!
No sooner than the thought crossed his mind than did the prince arrive astride his trusty mare, Robin the horse.
Steve winced. Maybe he wouldnāt tell Robin about this one. He definitely wasnāt going to tell Gareth either way, not unless he wanted to watch out for booby traps in their apartment for the rest of his life.
Heh heh, boobies.
Steve skimmed the couple paragraphs going on and on about how loyal and steadfast the princeās mare was, only slowing down once the porn started getting good again:
As his one-eyed proportionally-sized weasel grew underneath his trousers in response to those heated touches, so too did Edmundās nerves.
āSire, please be gentle,ā he requested. āI have lain with another before, but not like this!ā

Their sweet smell lingered long after the noises receded.
That had been the entire reason heād bothered to pry his way from his daze ā from the literal ground: to seek that delicious scent that had ignited the hunger deep in his belly⦠how he found himself single minded in his quest to find it.
It was easy to ignore how his body ached; how his fingers were caked with dirt and splinters of wood from digging himself out of what heās realized had been his own coffin and grave, how his limbs burned with effort after some unknown time of disuse. Nothing else mattered except seeking and tracking that smell across town in the cover of shadows and the new moon. Passing so many other lovely smells; enough to further build the flame of his hunger, but none so tempting at the one he was searching for.
The surprise finally hit him when he found himself in front of a familiar doorway - staring at the double doors as if theyād bit him⦠wondering how he got there; unsure where here was, despite itās familiarity. Mind finally catching up with him that he was moving⦠dead things donāt move. He reached forward, attempting to wiggle the knob open, only the reel back with a hiss as he hit some soft of⦠barrier?
What the hell?

For @steddie-spooktober, Week 1 | Prompt: "Is that your blood?", cosy, macabre Rating: T
"Is that your blood?"
It's a stupid question. One that doesn't deserve an answer. Steve isn't given one.
For a moment, it's Spring. For a moment, it's 1986. In some ways, it's always 1986.
He'd fallen asleep on the couch again, and Robin's jacket covered his bare legs, keeping the frost of fall in Illinois at bay. Standing in the haloed fuzz of the TV static was Eddie Munson. That meant it was past midnight. The boy had been dead for three years, and he was still showing up every other night to bleed on Steve's rented carpet.
Steve wouldn't let his eyes linger on the deep gashes littering Eddie's side. He keeps his eyes up. Eddie's face is the same. His eyes are wide, brown and full of potential.
"I didn't think you were going to show tonight." Steve comments.
It takes a moment for Eddie's eyes to meet his. Sometimes it takes a while to acclimatise to the land of the living.
"I can't leave a guy hanging, now can I?" Eddie asks at last. Tonight, he's lucid. He offers Steve a shy grin and sits beside his feet.
He always expects Eddie to feel cold, like death, but he's warm. He takes spring with him wherever he goes. He smells like blood and ash, but Steve has learned to ignore it. Steve has learned to ignore a lot of things.
"What's new with you?" Eddie asks, taking Steve's feet into his lap. Some nights, he can't feel Eddie at all. Tonight, he feels real as flesh and bone.
"Rob and I are working at a diner now. She's going to college and she's got a new girlfriend. The kids are good. I spoke to your uncle on the phone last month. He's working the day shift now."
"Fascinating, but none of those things involve you, Stevie," Eddie supplied. There's dirt under his fingernails.
'I'm still seeing the ghost of a boy I never got to know,' Steve thinks, but doesn't say.
'I'm going crazy," Steve thinks but doesn't say.
'I think that time is a river that you and I are standing in while everyone else is drifting by,' Steve almost says.
"I'm thinking of throwing a party for Halloween," Steve admits.
There are very few things Steve is genuinely good at. Throwing parties is one of them. Another is being haunted, but that's neither here nor there.
"Halloween already?" Time for Eddie passes oddly, Steve knew.
The man's ringed fingers slide beneath Robin's jacket and settle on his shins. The hairs on his legs stand to attention.
"I'm sorry I couldn't save you," Steve whispers, because he needs to. He tells Eddie every chance he can. On some nights, when he's feeling brave, he'll add, 'because I think I could have loved you,' if they'd had time.
Eddie looks perplexed, his brows drawing together, his jaw working away at nothing. There is blood on his lips and in his teeth. He doesn't seem to notice. Steve still wants to kiss him. Blood pounds in his ears, reminding Steve that he's alive, despite everything.
"I'm sorry I can't leave you alone. I would if I could. I try, but I keep coming back to you."
Steve didn't want Eddie to stop. He had the boy sometimes, and it would have to be enough. Maybe one of these days, he could work out how to save him. Bringing someone back from the dead sounded impossible but, in Steve's life, stranger things had happened.
Until that day, Steve was okay with being an anchor tying Eddie down in time.
"I don't want you to go. It's nice when you're here. It's cosy." Steve was cuddled up with the ghost of a rotting corpse and calling it cosy. He was officially all the way crazy.
"You want to know a nerdy fact?" Eddie questions, twisting his hair between his thumb and forefinger.
"Careful, I've been told I have a thing for nerds," Steve warns as he sits up, shifting closer to the boy. He worries he'll hurt Eddie by getting too close, but he remains still and steadfast as a stone.
"Haunt and home come from the same word. Maybe that's why I keep following you," Eddie offers.
"You're... my place, you know?"
Steve did. He just wished they'd worked it out sooner.
"Or maybe, something happened when you tried to drag my body out of the Upside Down," Eddie continues.
"I took tenth-grade science twice, so I remember them talking about how everything is just... like made of waves. Maybe when you tried to pull me out, your waves and my waves crashed together, and now we're just like... surfing," Eddie proposes as Steve presses himself firmly into Eddie's bleeding side. Soon, Eddie will disappear. He never stays long.
"Maybe," Steve agrees, unsure what either theory really means for them, other than the fact that they are stuck with each other.
Steve rests his head on Eddie's shoulder and closes his eyes, sleep threatening to pull the two apart sooner than Steve intended.
"Stay 'till morning," Steve proposes.
"I'll try," Eddie assures.
Steve feels the rise and fall of Eddie's chest, a shallow and rattling facsimile of a breath. In that moment, Eddie feels both so alive and so close to death.
Steve feels time slip away as sleep takes him over, crashing like a dark wave overhead.
When he wakes up, it's morning. When he wakes up, he's alone and, to his surprise, caked in Eddie's blood. That's new.
Robin enters their living room, wiping the sleep from her eyes and turning a deathly shade of pale as she sees Steve.
āAnd since when do you let grown-ass men befriend your nine-year-old daughter like that? Thatās not like you at all.ā
āFor fuckās sake, Dustin, youāre making it sound weird,ā Steve says, defensive. He peeks at the living room, to make sure Aira is still watching her cartoons, then goes back to the kitchen and leans against the counter. āEddie is basically her teacher, heās not a stranger, and Iām there with them the whole time. Itās not at all like youāre insinuating.ā
Dustin hums. āOh, so Mr. Munson has a name. Interesting.ā
āStop being a dick, Iām telling you thereās nothing going on.ā
āActually, what youāre telling me is that the guy who runs the book clubs Aira joined this year is using his free time to pay you guys a visit every week so you can have some quality time together.ā
āI didnāt say he comes to the shop every week.ā Even though itās true, but Dustin doesnāt need to know that.
āNo, you didnāt. But Aira did. She also said that you never let Mr. Munson pay for his drinks, which I find very odd since thatās basically the whole purpose of running a coffee shop, isnāt it? You provide drinks and people pay you for your service. Why are you giving Mr. Munson free drinks, Steve?ā
He really needs to have a serious talk with Aira about how she doesnāt have to tell her Uncle Dustin every little detail of their lives. The kid has no filter whatsoever.
āIs he hot?ā Dustin teases, and Steveās face burns immediately.
āIām not discussing this with you!ā
āOooh, man, he totally is.ā Dustin snorts, then starts singing in the most obnoxious of voices. āSteve has a cru-ush, Steve has a cru-ush.ā
āShut the fuck up, Dustin, or Iām telling Suzie you gave Aira a Nintendo Switch last Christmas, instead of the Lego set you told her youād buy.ā
Works like magic; the other man goes silent in a second, and Steve canāt help the satisfied grin that curls up his lips.
āThatās what I thought,ā he gloats, and when Dustin speaks again Steve can hear that old petulant tone he used to have in his voice all the time when he was a kid. Especially when things didnāt go his way.
āYou canāt keep using the Suzie card forever, itās not fair.ā
Steve chuckles. āWatch me, butthead.ā
As expected, Dustin drops the subject for good, and thereās no more mentions of Mr. Munson for the rest of their call. God bless Suzie and her amazing, amazing self, the only person in this world capable of taming Dustin and putting him in his place when everybody else have failed.
Steveās totally going to send her a gift sometime, just to show his appreciation for having her in their lives. Heāll even let Aira choose her auntās present.
-
-
But the thing is, Dustin wasnāt that far off when he was spewing shit and teasing Steve about Eddie.
Steve is aware that thereās something going on between Eddie and him, heās not stupid. He knows Eddie genuinely cares about Aira, that the man is more than happy to spend some of his free time discussing books and games with Steveās kid, but Steve is not naĆÆve enough to believe thatās all there is to Eddieās weekly visits. Not when Steve can see the way Eddie looks at him when he thinks Steveās busy.
Itās driving Steve a little insane, if heās being honest.
Because itās been years since the last time someone picked his interest like this and Steve feels like a freaking teenager trying to deal with his first crush. He has no idea what he should do, and Dustinās teasing only makes things worse; forces Steve into admitting whatās happening, into facing his own feelings.
If he wasnāt a father, Steve wouldnāt be hesitating. Eddie is exactly the type of guy Steveās always been weak for: rebellious but with a heart of gold, funny, caring and attentive, a little crazy but well intended, great with kids. Eddie checks all the boxes in Steveās list of requirements for the perfect guy, aces it with flying colors and still has the bonus requirement of being hot as hell.
But Steve has Aira to think about first.
Since his kid was born, itās been the two of them against the world. Robin, Dustin and Suzie have always been a blessing in their lives and have been present for their best and for their worst moments as much as their own lives allowed them to, but on a daily basis itās always been just Steve and Aira.
Steve never dated anyone for long enough to introduce them to his kid, and Aira never had to share her fatherās attention with anybody, so Steveās awfully out of his depth here. Should he do something? Should he ignore it? Whatever it is that itās happening between Eddie and him doesnāt feel like a silly little crush that will probably pass after a couple of dates, and thatās what scares Steve the most.
He doesnāt know if he has the space in his life to accommodate a relationship right now, he doesnāt know how Aira is going to deal with the prospect of not having her father all to herself anymore.
Maybe heās being a coward, or perhaps heās just overthinking it. Maybe Steveās just making excuses to avoid disturbing the comfortable life heās created for Aira and him.
Despite Steveās internal struggles, having Eddie around is always a joy.
Itās so fucking cute how Airaās whole face lights up the moment Eddie sets foot in the shop, and also kind of impressive how fast that kid can reach the door without crashing against any of the customers.
āMr. Munson!ā she exclaims, all happy and bubbly, as she dashes towards Eddie and almost knocks him down when she eventually collides against his front, thin arms wrapping around his middle in a surprisingly strong welcome hug.
From behind the counter, Steve lets out a small hiss of sympathy for the probable bruise Eddieās going to find on his ribs later.
āHello to you too, Aira,ā Eddie says, ruffling the girlās hair as she looks up at him with a toothy smile. āHow are you doing today?ā
āIām great!ā
Steve wonders if it would be too weird if he took a picture right now but gives up on the idea as soon as he remembers his conversation with Dustin earlier that week. That jerk wouldnāt let Steve live this down if he found out.
āAira, let Mr. Munson go and come back to your table,ā Steve calls instead, using his best dad voice. āYour waffles are getting cold.ā
āOkay, okay,ā the girl says with a dramatic eyeroll very similar to her Autie Robinās, and Steve canāt help but snicker at the girlās theatrics.
She grabs Eddie by the hand, though, and leads him towards the small table by the window she usually occupies whenever she joins her dad on the weekends. Eddie gives Steve a little wave when he walks by the counter, smile apologetic as he turns his attention to Airaās incessant babbling.
Steve doesnāt join them right away. Itās mid-morning, so the shop is packed with customers. Steve is handling the drinks, while Andy takes orders and waits tables; Sarah and Pete are cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
An hour later, the morning rush dies down. All the customers already have their orders and are doing their own thing; chatting with friends and family, eating by themselves and enjoying a quiet morning.
Eddie and Aira are done with their breakfast, their plates and mugs stacked and pushed aside on their table to make room for the small pile of comic books Aira has been binge reading lately. Thatās Eddieās influence right there; Airaās never cared much about comic books, despite Dustinās efforts to convince his niece how cool they were. But, apparently, Japanese comic books are way cooler than the ones her uncle Dustin owns because Airaās been reading them like crazy since Eddie lent her one from his personal collection.
Oh, yes, thatās something thatās been happening lately too; not only is Eddie coming over to spend time with them, heās also lending Aira his own books and comics to spare Steve the extra expenses. Considering how fast his daughter is going through Eddieās comic collection, Steve canāt say heās opposed to this new development.
Watching them from the counter, Steve does quick work cleaning his utensils and scrubbing and wiping everything until itās spotless. Andy comes back and joins him just as Steveās done, that knowing look still very much there, now with a little smirk on his lips as well as he takes charge of the register without Steve even asking him to.
Well, it has been almost three months, Steveās not the only one whoās got their little routine memorized by now.
Both Aira and Eddie are so focused on their comic books that they donāt even look up when Steve takes the empty seat next to them.
āWell, good to know my presence is appreciated,ā he says after a minute of silence, as he takes a sip of his drink.
The twin looks of surprise he gets from Eddie and Aira are so freaking endearing.
āDaddy! Sakura got all the Clow cards!ā his little girl says excitedly, closing her comic for a moment. āBut now something is wrong, and she has to turn all Clow cards into Sakura cards.ā
Steve has no idea what sheās talking about, but he plays along anyways. āNo way! All of them?ā
āYes! Itās so cool.ā
āOh, I bet.ā
When Steve looks up, Eddie is watching the two of them with this fond expression on his face that makes Steveās heart beat a little faster. Itās so unfair how effortlessly handsome this man is.
āHi. How was breakfast?ā
āHi,ā Eddie says with a small smile. āGreat as usual. Are you gonna let me pay this time?ā
āNot a chance. Consider it payment for all the comic books youāve been lending us lately.ā
āItās manga, daddy, not comic books,ā Aira chides at him. āWe already told you that a hundred times.ā
Eddie smile grows big enough to show his teeth. Heās so proud he canāt even hide it. Nerd. āSheās got a point there.ā
āItās the same thing,ā Steve insists just to be difficult, making an effort to keep his expression nonchalant.
Itās hard, though, because Aira is so offended sheās actually pouting.
āItās not! Itās completely different,ā she says.
āLooks the same to me.ā
They spend a great chunk of Steveās break arguing if manga and comic books are the same thing or not, then move on and start arguing if cartoons and anime are also the same thing.
Aira stubbornly defends that they arenāt, in fact, the same. Neither of them. Eddie backs her up because heās a nerd and is more than happy to encourage this side of Aira too. Steve argues just because he thinks itās cute how passionate they are about the matter, even though he couldnāt care less if heās right or not.
All in all, itās a very normal Saturday morning for them.

Steve should have known better than to believe Dustin would let the matter go so easily. He never does, not when it comes to things he definitely shouldnāt be sticking his nose in, so there was no way Dustin would just agree and never mention Eddie ever again.
He just gives Steve one of those cocky little grins, mischief shining in his eyes, as he passes by the counter in his way to his nieceās table. Steve uses all his self-control not to hit Dustin with the bag of tea leaves heās holding.
Aira, though, is ecstatic about having her Uncle Dustin and Mr. Munson with her at the same time. Sheās basically bouncing on her seat, as she shows Dustin the new manga series Eddieās lending her; this one about a cute cat, Chi something.
Dustin indulges the girl, animatedly chatting with her and nodding as Aira probably tells him the whole story. Eddie chirps in here and there, adding to their conversation easily.
Steve watches the three of them interact as he works. At some point, Aira tires of talking and goes back to reading her manga quietly. Eddie and Dustin, however, seem to be getting along pretty well because their conversation never dies down. Eddie waves his hands theatrically as he tells Dustin something that makes the younger man laugh hard, and Steve feels curiosity burn in his chest.
When his morning break finally comes, Steve doesnāt join them, though. He does stop by their table for long enough to drop a kiss on Airaās head and to greet Eddie properly, but instead of sitting with them, Steve pulls Dustin up from his seat and drags him all the way to the small breakroom at the back of the shop.
āThe hell are you doing here?ā Steve asks once the door is closed.
āWell, hello to you too, Steve,ā Dustin sneers. āIām doing great, thanks for asking. Suzie couldnāt come, but she promised sheāll come with me for Thanksgiving.ā
āDustin, drop it, okay?ā he says. āIām serious. What are you doing here? You didnāt mention youād be coming.ā
āWhat? Canāt I visit my own niece?ā
Steve really isnāt in the mood for Dustinās games right now; he doesnāt even bother with an answer.
āOkay, fine. I got curious, alright? Is this what you want me to say? I got curious about this Mr. Munson guy and wanted to meet the man whoās stealing my nieceās affections. I didn't know that was a crime now.ā
āWhaāEddieās not stealing Airaās affections, what are you even talking about?ā
It takes Steve a full minute, but then he finally sees it; Dustin is jealous. Heā didnāt come here because he wants to meddle with Steveās life, at least thatās not the only reason that brought him here. Dustin is here because Aira is always mentioning Eddie in every single conversation she has with her uncle, and the idiot is afraid heās losing his place in the little girlās life, even though the idea is so absurd Steve canāt believe someone as smart as Dustin would even consider it a possibility.
āYouāre ridiculous,ā Steve cackles despite his disbelief. āYou flew all the way from Boston because you were jealous of your nine-year-old niece. How old are you, five?ā
Dustin scowls. āYeah, yeah, laugh all you want. But at least Iām not the one with a huge fucking crush on my daughterās teacher.ā Thatās enough to make Steve almost choke on his own spit, and Dustin pats his back in mocking sympathy. āBut, hey, at least this time you chose a cool guy, not one of the usual boring assholes Robin sets you up with.ā
āShut up!ā
Itās Dustinās turn to cackle.
-
-
Turns out Dustin is only staying with them for a couple of days.
Steveās afternoon shift never took so long to end.
At night, they have dinner together, just the three of them. It feels so much like old times; Aira and Dustin talking loudly and so, so fast itās hard to keep up with everything theyāre saying, while Steve just watches his two favorite people in the world bond over the most random things. He feels a pang of longing, and his heart aches a little as Steve realizes these moments are only going to become rarer and rarer as Aira gets older and Dustin gets busier with his new teaching job at the university.
But they are here right now, so Steve choses to focus on that instead.
They leave the dirty dishes in the sink and decide to have a movie night for old timesā sake, Aira happily cuddled between her dad and her uncle on the couch as they watch Tangled for the hundredth time. Sheās asleep halfway through the movie, and Dustin offers to tuck her in as soon as the movie ends.
When he comes downstairs again, Steveās doing the dishes. The younger man leans against the counter beside him, silently watching as Steve works for a while.
āSooo, about Eddie,ā he starts.
Of course he does. When in hell did Dustin let anything go?
āOh my God, Dustināā
āNo, no, Iām serious, Steve. Iām serious. Iām not trying to be a smartass, I promise.ā
Itās the way Dustin says this that convinces Steve heās being honest. Thereās no smirk on his face, no teasing tone in his voice, nothing. With an exasperated huff, Steve dries his hands on a dish towel before reluctantly facing Dustin properly.
āWhat? What about Eddie?ā
āHeās cool, you know. Like, really cool. I get why Aira likes him so much, heās pretty awesome and he also knows a lot about books.ā Steve doesnāt say anything, just crosses his arms in front of his chest and waits for Dustin to continue whatever it is that heās trying to say. āAre you going to ask him out?ā
And there it is; exactly what Steve thought heād say.
āI donāt know, Dustin,ā Steve admits. āI donāt know if I have time for this right now. I donāt even know if this is something Eddie would even want.ā
Dustin snorts. āThatās bullshit. The guy is head over heels for you. Heād probably cry if you asked him out.ā
āDustin.ā
āBut Iām not even lying! The guy talks about you all the time, and he has this stupid little smile on his face every time youāre around. If I can see it, then everyone else can see it too. And donāt give me the stink eye, you know Iām right.ā
Oh, Steve knows. Heās seen the expression Dustinās mentioning, he knows he must have a very similar one whenever Eddie is around too, but heās still hesitating.
āYou know I canāt just rush into things like these,ā he says. āI have to think about Aira first. I canāt disrupt her life and bring someone into our home just because I have a stupid crush. What if Aira hates the idea of us dating?ā
āAs if. The kid loves Eddie to bits; sheād be thrilled if you two started dating.ā
āShe loves him, yes, but itās one thing having Eddie around as a family friend who we see a couple of times a week so we can talk about shared interests. We donāt know if this would still be true if Eddie and I were in a relationship. Everything would change, thereās no guarantee Aira would be happy with this.ā
āUhm, but there is, you know,ā Dustin counters with an amused smile. āGuarantee that Aira would be happy with this, I mean. She told me this today, on our way home.ā
Steveās face must be doing something quite funny, because Dustin is fighting off a grin with some impressive effort.
āShe⦠told you?ā the older man asks dumbly. āWhat the hell does that mean?ā
āIt means exactly what Iām saying. Aira told me she would love it if you and Eddie started dating. But if you want her exact words, she said something like, āI wish daddy and Mr. Munson dated, because then heād come over to our movie nights all the time and he would also read me stories before bed. He does awesome voices, way better than daddyās.āā
Oh my fucking God. This is not happening, Steveās not hearing this. Dustin has to be lying.
āI told you, man, if I can see it, then everyone else can too. And this includes Aira. Sheās too smart not to notice thereās something going on.ā
Steve wants to die.
Oh my God, what is he thinking? He canāt die, Aira would suffer if he died. But maybe Steve can hide at home for a while? At least until his heart is not hammering inside his chest by the mere thought of his daughter clocking his damn crush on her freaking teacher.
Dustin hand on his shoulder breaks Steve out of his slight panic.
āHey, Steve, come on, chill. Why are you even panicking? This is a good thing, right? Youāve got your kidās approval, thatās a great thing.ā
It is. It is a very good thing, because it means his daughter is okay with the idea of sharing him with someone else, which is definitely something. But at the same time it isnāt. Steveās been using Aira as an excuse not to face his own feelings for too long, and now he doesnāt have this excuse anymore. Steve is lost.
Realization dawns on Dustinās face.
āYou really like him, donāt you?ā he asks unusually soft, squeezing Steveās shoulder. āItās not just a crush, you like Eddie for real. And youāre scared of it.ā
āI justāI canāt fuck this up, Dustin,ā Steve says, covering his eyes with his hands for a moment so he can think. āI canāt. And there are so many ways I can fuck this up. I just donāt know what to do, or even if I should do anything.ā
āLook, Iām not gonna pretend I know what youāre going through here, alright? But can I be honest with you?ā
Steve shrugs, shoulders slumped. That seems to be enough permission for Dustin.
āYouāre being a coward,ā he says, and ignores Steveās indignant protest. āI mean, sure, maybe you and Eddie donāt work out, thatās a possibility, but what if you guys do work out? What if you guys work out so well that you decide youāre it for each other? This is also a possibility, and a way probable one considering how besotted you are for each other. I think youāre only focusing on the bad side of things because you donāt want to make a decision, and this is just cowardice. And donāt say this is about Aira, and how this can affect her life, because we both know itās not true. At least not entirely.ā
āYeah, but this can affect her life,ā Steve still tries to argue, but Dustin is not having any of it.
āIt can also be exactly the change you and Aira need in your lives. It can be great for both of you, but youāll never know if you keep running away. Werenāt you the one who always told me I should follow my instincts and do what I thought was right? So Iām asking you, Steve, what is your instinct telling you about this?ā
That Eddie is perfect for him. That heās exactly what Steveās always looked for in a partner and that he just fits in with their family. That he loves their dynamic and how effortless it is for them to get along and understand each other. How scarily easy it is to understand each other.
But Steve canāt say all that to Dustin. Heās barely ready to admit that to himself, and it doesnāt seem fair, telling someone else how he truly feels when Eddie still doesnāt know.
āWhen did you become such an emotionally intelligent person?ā Steve asks instead.
If he notices how tight Steveās voice sounds, Dustin doesnāt mention it. āOh, I didnāt. Suzie just spent the last two weeks dissecting this matter with me, so I could come here and talk some sense into you. Iām just the messenger.ā
Yeah, thatās much more like it.
āAlright. I promise Iāll think about it, and Iāll make a decision. Just not right now, I still need to give this thing some honest thought.ā
āSeems fair,ā Dustin nods.
Their conversation moves on to safer topics after that. Dustin helps Steve with the dishes, then they move to the living room to watch something thatās not meant for nine-year-olds and under. They end up watching some gory horror movie because itās been months since Steve last had a chance to watch one.
āHey,ā Dustin calls, half an hour into the movie, and Steve shoots him a questioning glance. āJust so you know, if you and Eddie donāt work out in the end, Iām really sorry, but I think Iāll have to take his side. The guy actually knows what a Valar is! Sorry, but you canāt beat that, dude.ā
Steveās not even sorry when Dustin ends up sprawled on the floor after Steve kicks him hard.

WIP SNIP: "There's More To Me Than You"
āSteve! Hey! Sorry I got stuck a like⦠train worth of school buses. Of course, easy to see why now.ā Eddieās voice broke him from the spiral of his thoughts, the man approaching with a wave and a wide grin - dimples fully on display. He couldnāt help but smile back, looking over him in a way he really hadnāt been able to between the party (too drunk) or the last time theyād seen one another (working).
They were right around the same height and build, maybe an inch of difference between the two of them barefoot, but where Steveās waist was thick, Eddieās was tapered in ever so slightly, giving way to a gloriously tempting swell of his hips - made even more obvious by the skin tight red Henley heād put on. His hair was fully pulled up into a loose and messy bun, strands framing his face that were purposely made to look unintentional, but if Steve knew anything, it was hair, and there was little to no way those exact coils of curls had fallen like on their own.
Just like he had the last two times, he sparkled with silver jewelery - rings and a stack of necklaces and so many earrings - the only difference being his nose ring. The little black star replaced with a silver hoop.
āHey.ā Steve exhaled; hadnāt even realized heād been holding his breath until the strain in his lungs forced his attention away from Eddie, face going just slightly pink, āYeah, I know, I didnāt call and check, if you want we can totally do something elseāā
āNo way! Field trips get the best tour guides, plus⦠I didnāt get to do this kind of thing as a kid. Itāll be fun.ā The other manās smile was beaming as he looked over the crowd, āBesides⦠kids are great. Adults lose that sparkle of fun and creativity after a while; too much gets in the way when you grow up. Kids get to just⦠be, you know?ā
If Steveās heart clenched a little at that, it was no ones business but his own, āYouāre right. Now⦠if you donāt mind, I think I promised you some animals.ā He held out his hand without thinking, but before he could pull back, Eddie slipped his palm against his and tangled their fingers together, squeezing softly - face just as pink as his own.
āTake me away, big boy.ā
