Tonight I decided to write a letter to my PhD advisor announcing to her that I’ve decided to take this step in my transition. This semester has been a lot of planning the timeline out for the rest of my degree. Therefore, I need to inform her about my transition goals as they relate to my timeline. I sobbed openly while writing this letter. I’m not sure why exactly; perhaps because I have some small worry that she won’t understand why, perhaps because I know this will make my life as a graduate student more difficult. But I do think there was an element of joy to my tears. That I felt like I could talk so openly about my transition with my advisor. I don’t know what the message here is really but I’m just Glad that I know she’s here for me during my journey.
