I used to think "Bohemian Rhapsody" was a long song. Then I started listening to Led Zeppelin.
I used to think "Stairway to Heaven" was a long song. Then I listened to more Led Zeppelin.
I used to think "Achilles Last Stand" was a long song.
Now I listen to prog rock. My entire concept of what qualifies as "long" in terms of song duration has been severely and irreversibly warped beyond all recognition. I say things like "it's only 8 minutes long" and my friends look at me in horror. For they have not been where I have been. They have not known the things I have come to know. For I have gone where humankind was never meant to go and I have seen the face of God. And he spoke to me. And he said, "your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick." And I have nodded in assent and understanding.
