My favorite song is definitely The Colony of Slippermen, I just love the story, the funky instrumental at the beginning, as well as the instrumental within the rest of the song as well, and ofc, LOVE the part with the Raven. And Iâm SO GLAD they added the ripping sound in the remaster
Back in NYC + Hairless Heart definitely has to be a close second tho. Also love Anyway + Here Comes the Supernatural Aneasthetist (I will never learn how to spell that)
Also, I LOVE The Waiting Room. idc how weird it is, I love the instrumental so much, ESPECIALLY after the loud bang/lighting strike (??) at the end. And Silent Sorrows in Empty Boats because HELLO I LITERALLY START ASCENDING WHEN I LISTEN TO IT HOW DOES TONY DO THATâŚ
Itâs kinda weird bc I get phases where Iâll listen to one of the songs there repeatedly, and itâs happened with every song except for Lilywhite Lilith and The Ravine. Right now itâs Chamber of 32 Doors
As for favorite momentsâŚ
Definitely in the title track, when Rael gets introduced (âRael imperial aerosol kid, exits into daylight, spraygun hid!â) because 1. I just love the way PG says that line and 2. Rael is being introduced like thatâs literally my goat đĽš
Johnâs introduction in In the Cage because I LOVE JOHN and that part with the blood dribbling down his cheek is so interesting to me. Iâve also said this in a previous reblog but the âmy little runawayâ part I absolutely love, and Iâm pretty sure is a reference to Del Shannonâs âRunawayâ and I love that song and I love that part yeah
The Supernatural Anaesthetist in general because I see it as Rael dancing with him (pretty sure thatâs whatâs happening anyway) and I love to imagine how the dance goes in my head when I listen to it
Definitely the end of the album too, like when Rael and John âbecome oneâ in a way. I love âitâ so much I love the âit is Rael!!!â Part
But a BIG favorite of mine has to be the personal moments of Back in NYC + Counting out Time because these are the main two songs where they talk about Raels personality. I heavily rely on these songs when making HCs for Rael, and John too honestly
I honestly feel like I love EVERY song on this album, like in this rant I just kept naming songs lmfao đ

I must be listening to the wrong mixđfrick u Apple MusicđListening to it on Spotify andâŚ. yes it has the ripping noise⌠darn it⌠(the whole song sounds so much cooler) and the mix of Back in N.Y.C. I listen to doesnât have the weird voice filter eitherđľâđŤđľâđŤ(not that I particularly liked it but still)
One of my favorite story bits is when Rael gets âshoobedoobedâ or, to put it less politely, castrated. đľâđŤthen itâs stolen by the raven... so funny to me. The whole fourth(?second half of disc 2) side I love. When Rael decides to save John in The Light Dies Down it is very heartwarming in a way, then the action in Riding the Scree, then when they âhold togetherâ In The Rapids I am just invested!!đđâ¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸. Then it is an amazing song to close the album of course, it is so climacticđĽ
(AND THE JOHN MOMENT IN THE CAGE IS SO GOOD YES, the keyboard solo preceding and following it like Go, Tony, Go!!!!.!.!! I love the keyboard solossss)

Man not sure whatâs up with Apple Music, I donât use it at all I just listen to Spotify LMAO, canât believe they didnât add the rip effect đ
But yeah speaking of those changes in the remaster I have to say that the sounds do sound a lot better, the weird effect in the porcupine bit during Back in NYC is a bit questionable, I started to HC that Raels crying during that bit and thatâs why it sounds like thatâŚbut I really wish they didnât make some of the vocals sound more quiet. Like in The Colony of Slippermen I feel like the âme, like you, like that?!â Part sounds quieter than it used to. And during âRiding the Screeâ too, like I really wish it wasnât as quiet, but honestly it doesnât bother me too much.
But yess honestly that second part of side 2 is great, with Rael getting castrated and going to save JohnâŚI LOVE the âwe hold togetherâ part AS WELL AHHâŚand yea I honestly love Tonyâs solos, especially in this album đ

I used to be all-in on the idea that they were twins and had opposite personalities and the ending of the album is them coming together to complete each other in some sort of yin-yang way⌠But now I think Rael is older, simply because I like the dynamic. Idk though. Thoughts?

Personally, I think John is the older sibling simply because of how he indirectly guides Rael. As always, I love to try and put together the potential life Rael and John had, as itâs not really stated in the album. During âIn the Cageâ John does not help Rael, maybe because heâs petty, but I also see it as a test for Rael, the cage serves as his fake, arrogant identity, and he has to push through his âcageâ to reach his true self, which is what John serves within the album (his more self-collected personality that he masks away) another example of John indirectly guiding Rael is during âThe Light Dies Down on Broadway,â by falling to the river, giving Rael full control over what to do next. John didnât do jack shit for him during the entire album, why should he help him? Does he escape through the open gate, leaving John in the river to possibly drown, or will he go save his brother, despite the risks? And ofc, Rael goes to save John, and in the end, they become one, showing Raelâs acceptance of his true nature.
This whole indirect guiding thing makes me think that John is the older brother because the trope between two siblings is the older one tends to be the guide to the younger one. Throughout their lives, John possibly tried to guide Rael to the right direction in life, knowing Rael, he probably wanted nothing to do with Johnâs advice. But perhaps deep down, past his fake personality, Rael knew that John was right. Rael needed Johnâs indirect help during the journey in order to push through. And perhaps that since John has tried to help Rael all his life, Rael started to see himself for who he really is when he was in alternate NYC.
And Johnâs advice during âThe Colony of Slippermenâ (when Raels shoobedoobe gets stolen by the raven) just sounded very older-brother to me, itâs hard for me to explain why I feel that wayâŚitâs just the way John says ânow youâre sick with your grouch..â makes it sound like heâs tired of his younger brothers bullshit.
But yeah, thatâs why I see John as the older brother, based on how he guided Rael in the album. And yes, I donât think itâs really John, I believe itâs Raels suppressed identity coming to Rael as an older, smarter figure that he knows he can trust, also why I believe John is older.
But I can also see how Rael could be the older sibling. Falling into a river right as your brother finds a way out of the weird world you two are in is so younger-sibling codedâŚalso love the yin-yang thing of them being twins! I also saw the ending as that sort of thing, but I never considered that they could be twins!
this is trueđĽšđI always saw John as the older one⌠the way Rael calls out to him in âIn The Cageâ makes him seem like someone Rael can rely on, someone like an older siblingđ. Or maybe Rael acts too immaturely to be older than John LOL. Twins is a fun idea toođ, how John represents a more mature side of Rael
