exposure and representation are honestly such important  things when it comes to self acceptance and self love. It’s not easy to love yourself or accept your appearance when it’s not the kind of appearance that is being represented in the media. The fashion and makeup industry feed off of our own inbred hatred by showing us the ideal person who we view as unattainable and yet if we use the products they are using maybe, just maybe we will feel and look better. These brainwashing systems are so hurtful to humanity and it’s honestly disgusting that these industries are allowed to use so little representation. The honest to goodness truth is that not everybody is traditionally beautiful. This in non way means that not everyone is beautiful. Striving for traditional beauty or trying to live up to a certain standard is so harmful to mind and a lot of the times we don’t even realize what a strain it is putting on us. And self love can’t always come from within. Something that has been helpful to me lately has been finding people (often people on social media as well as people I see in real life) who I consider beautiful and learning to recognize the parts of them that I find so attractive. I find that these things are not always things that are traditionally attractive.
