4. Another detail of the bat. The Amount of details on this bat has proven to be next to impossible to document. Especially with the super glossy clear coat finish. You can see in this shot how I used strips of colour to cap of the artwork. I chose green to match the colour of the fields and white to represent the bases and lines on the field. This is Scott People have nick named him predator II because he has dreadlocks which are similar to the alien character in the movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is - II because there was a courier who already had that nick name for the same reason.
This is John I also don't know John very well. However, we have talked in a coffee shop that he was hanging out in while he was waiting for trips coffee breaks are awesome! And one great thing about this job is you can pretty much decide when to take a break. But for those who are easily unmotivated coffee breaks should be taken with caution. You can end up taking breaks when you should be working It's hard to believe I used to have coffee breaks quite often, and get paid more than I do now with hardly any breaks. I used to do crosswords daily, but though they may have been fun and good for my brain. I was neither making money, nor following my dream. So now I try to limit my breaks, and when I do have the opportunity to stop I am being productive pursuing my dream of being a full time Illustrrator
This is Mike.... I don't know Mike... So... I'll talk about the cycle track As a courier it's a love hate relationship, but mostly hate. It is great because now that there is cycle tracks on one way streets, I can now LEGALLY go down it safely and anything to make this job safer is a good thing. However, the hate, oh the hate. I dislike this because it opens so much unhappy dialogue between motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. I would venture a guess that 90% of people don't like it because it was expensive and creates new traffic rules patterns. This leads to confusion, and frustration which for the most part is taken out on the cyclists. Now I also see the anger voiced opinions from the other side too. I have seen cyclists yelling a pedestrians or parked cars in the bike lanes, when it is very simple to ring your bell and go around. It is in my opinion that when you are voicing this frustration to people who already dislike the cycle track and it gives them yet another reason to dislike it So I would like to ask EVERYONE to share the road and be happy. Next time you are frustrated and want to voice your anger just think of a cat in a shark costume riding on a roomba and hopefully that will help your anger pass. This is josh I got this one done just in time. He is currently has taken -quite literally- a hike. He is hiking the Pacific Crest trail which goes from the Mexican boarder in California up the coast into Canada As a courier he has been known to have had some attitude towards a particular group of people - the police. On his last day working before his trip he ran through a red light in front of the cop. I'm not entirely sure of the specific details but the cop had to tackle him, and because of his...demeanour with the officer it landed him in cuffs and a $487 ticket. As a courier you are most likely to have interactions with officers of the law. Some are more forgiving than others and some not so much. If I can offer any advice, be respectful, and apologetic. The minute you give them attitude is the moment you loose the any chance of getting out a ticket As for josh, hope he is staying out of trouble when he is not in the country #moleskine #messlife #messenger #courier #yyccycle #yycArtist #weareyyc #yyccourier
This is Jason, a vet of the industry, has been doing this job for the past 10 years I'm guessing. Only having one year off when he tried making it as a courier in Vancouver. Needless to say I think being a courier in Calgary is where it's at. Over his time as a courier he has collected time calls which basically take up his entire day A time call is a regularly scheduled delivery. So now his whole day is filled with these regular trips, I would say that most days for him look pretty similar. Going into the same offices and bringing packages back and fourth between offices which have multiple locations downtown and daily bank deposits I would consider time calls the only form of a promotion in this line of work. Since we are paid by the trip, and no income is guaranteed. You deliver more you make more, on a slow day you deliver less and make less. With time calls you have, for the most part, a fixed income that you can expect every pay check I used to have my own fair share of time calls, but sometimes the runs are canceled because the company is looking for ways to cut costs, or get accumulated by other companies which use a different courier company for their deliveries If you are starting out as a courier, find out who has time calls and make nice with them. Buy them coffee, beer, or whatever they drink. And maybe you can cover those runs when they are sick or on vacation. In the long term, if they quit or get fired maybe you will be lucky enough to accumulate their runs #couriersofcalgary #peopleofcalgary #messlife #messengers #couriers #yyc #yyccycle #iamdowntown #weareyyc #moleskine #timecalls
