Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says blocking highways is unacceptable after traffic was brought to a standstill by First Nations protesters late last week. Houston said in a Saturday evening statement that roadways “are our lifeblood” and need to be kept accessible for people travelling for critical reasons like medical appointments. Potlotek First Nation says it rejects the RCMP’s description of earlier protests as an “illegal blockade” — but didn’t give specific legal rationale in a news release Saturday.

Frontline officers in B.C. got the mozzarella but didn't get their man in a recent "cheese heist" at a Whole Foods in North Vancouver.

RCMP say they were on patrol Sept. 29 when they found a cart full of cheese outside the grocery store near East 13th Street and Lonsdale Avenue.

It was 4 a.m., and the store was closed, so police say they started to investigate and identified a suspect, who fled on foot, leaving the cheese behind.

Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) wear the distinctive high-brown leather Strathcona riding boots as part of their full dress (red serge) uniform (not every day wear).

The Mounties’ tall, shiny, brown, strapped leather boots are one of the most recognizable parts of the iconic Mountie image (along with the red tunic and brown Stetson hat).

Features:

Rich oxblood or dark brown (never black).

Come up to just below the knee (16–18 inches tall).

High-quality smooth leather with a glossy, almost patent-like shine when properly polished.

Two horizontal leather straps with buckles around the shaft (one near the top, one lower down). These are decorative now but originally helped keep the boot rigid for riding.

Plain rounded toe (no broguing or fancy stitching).

Medium riding heel (about 1.5 inches) with a leather sole (and rubber half-sole added in modern versions).

Officers attach small swan-neck spurs with leather spur straps to their boots when in the Musical Ride or parades.
