This post is basically an elaboration of one of the points in a great post by ataylorswiftsideblog which can be found here. I’ve potentially over-analysed a bit but it was really interesting to watch. You can do so here.
The interviewer asks “Other girls are being teenagers and having boyfriends, how does that work? I mean, how does it work when you’re being celebrated as the most beautiful girls in the world and most famous models, how do you then get the boy?”
As you can see, Karlie immediately looks very uncomfortable and adopts defensive body language. I think the behaviour’s particularly interesting as Jourdan and Rosie both look very relaxed. We also know that Karlie is usually very body aware from ballet.
Karlie gives a vague reply, “Well, oftentimes, that’s the thing, you just don’t have time for it. You know I, I, I…”
She then directs attention elsewhere by saying “I don’t know about you girls, how do you balance…?”
While Rosie speaks, Karlie nervously fiddles.
After Rosie replies, Karlie adds “But it is true, whether it’s a boyfriend, whether it’s a girlfriend, whether it’s a friend or a mum, having a support system, having a rock, having someone that is there for you, that cares about you…”
It’s interesting she acknowledges girlfriends because:
She mentions “a friend” so we can assume she doesn’t mean girlfriend in the ‘a female friend’ sense of the word
The question was explicitly about a boyfriend so there’s no real need to do so unless she wants to
