the fact that Grace was always going to end up on the Hail Mary as long as DuBois and Shapiro died kills me. And not in the sense that he had been being trained for the mission the whole time he was working on the project without really realising it, but that he wouldn't have been on the project in the first place if he hadn't gone back to the lab to ask Stratt for more Astrophage and more time. He could have saved himself by just staying at school, but he loves science and he loves his kids so much that it was barely even a decision for him, it was just something he had to do. Every version of Grace would have ended up on the Hail Mary because every version of Grace loves so deeply that he would have gone back every time.

grace was calling himself stratts "little science lapdog" out of a love for the game. nobody else called him that shit. which is to say that he'd absolutely also refer to himself as rockys pet alien and that he'd absolutely call the biodome his endangered species exhibit slash enclosure slash terrarium. grace enjoys petplay that degrades him but simultaneously posits him as the specialest most pampered boy

Rocky thinking Grace literally said “I have to go and die” on one of their first interactions is so funny to me. Like imagine meeting an alien after almost half a century alone and then they go “ah, bad timing, I’m gonna go lay down and never get up. Nice meeting ya! :)”
