I got a bumper sticker for Christmas
Why don't they make stained glass fish tanks? Give those fish Catholic guilt
fascinated by the implication that it's the stained glass that gives catholics the guilt

It is really disturbing how people can lose their humanity and threaten you just because you *checks notes* sentenced their child to death :'(
[Image description: screenshot of text reading :
One former Cigna executive recalled how the US health insurer used to frequently face threats when claims were denied. "We'd have times when you'd deny proton laser therapy for a kid with seizures and the parent would freak out," said the former executive. Another industry executive said: "What's most disturbing is the ability of people to hide behind their keyboards and lose their humanity."
\end ID]
So apparently, the parents of children who have been sentenced to death lose their humanity behind screens. As opposed to the people who look at spreadsheets and decide a person should die so they can earn a few extra bucks. Are they even listening to themselves?
for the next month everyone please imagine that there is a string of popcorn and cranberries on my blog. also some twinkly colored lights. theres some dried oranges and cinnamon as well. thanks guys

Finished a new piece. I think it speaks to my state of mind. Notice the fine details. :)
I have a thing to get to but had to get this out real quick
This is what "your emotions are valid" means.
It doesn't mean that any random shit you do is fine so long as you're angry or sad. It means that the anger and sadness is fine, attacking the emotion is pointless, and it's your behaviour in response to it that can help or harm.
I thought this pic was showing that everyone is inclined to play Fallout when feeling shitty
the problem i have with the whole "humans and nature as opposed and mutually exclusive forces" style of environmentalism is that it discourages people from a sustainable, mutualistic relationship with the ecosystems around them, because getting resources from an ecosystem is Bad. Therefore it requires you to think that parts of Earth that provide resources are not ecosystems.
this is where you get unbelievably stupid crap like the "half earth" project that proposes "protecting" half of Earth's land mass as nature preserves, never mind how we choose what half or what happens to the other half.
this type of environmentalism literally encourages people to think of their own presence as excluding or cancelling out "Nature."
And so people think of their lawns as Not Ecosystems, as Not Nature, so they cannot think "How do i live in right relationship with my ecosystem, as its caretaker?" This is death to ecological thinking.
The lawn was consciously created by intention and design, with heavy machinery that was manufactured, sold, and operated, it is not spontaneously created by fumes that the human body gives off.
You act upon the land, now time to learn what you are doing, and who you are doing it to.

I got a fish book from the library and I just think everyone should know that archerfish aka the guys that spit jets of water at bugs to knock them off plants and eat them aka these guys-
-are a social species (like a lot of fish), and that the jet spitting is actually a learned behavior rather than one they just do instinctually. They have to watch older members of their social groups do it a bunch of times (like up to thousands) before they're able to successfully do it themselves. If you take a young one and isolate it from its species, they just never get good at it (they also catch prey like "normal" fish tho, so an archerfish that can't archer won't starve just bc of that)
When they do learn to do it tho, they can compensate for light refraction, vary how much water they spit based on the size of the insect they're aiming for, and will learn to shoot insects that are midflight by spitting in the bug's flight path rather than where the bug actually is
