Last night I saw a local business post about a Stitch n Bitch. I hadn’t planned to do anything last night just curl up and doomscroll. (God remember the days we used to hopescroll?? It already seems like a million years ago) But instead I got my stuff together and went. The group wasn’t big. it was full of strangers. But we are all feeling the same way. There were some tears but there was also laughter. There were hopeless questions, and there were thoughtful answers on how we could support each other and our community. I’m so glad I went.

I also stitched this little number. I don’t stitch text much and it was all free hand so it’s wonky. But I think it sums it up nicely.

I love museums. I’ll always go to a museum. Art museum, science museum, aquariums whatever- I’m there. But I’m always on edge when I go. I’m always just a little anxious, a little wary before I enter a new area. Standing back and looking over the room a few times before I go in. I’ve had disturbing dreams of museums and aquariums. I was at an event after hours in the Meuseum of Natural History in NYC one night and was straight panicked the whole time. I’ve told this to people before and they don’t get it. Don’t understand this weird anxiety I have in museums. This random tumbler post is so freaking validating right now.

My child told me they are non-binary and they want to use a different name. As a family we work hard to use their preferred name. Today they used the term “deadname” and it hurt to hear. They aren’t dead, they are still here. I said that I didn’t like that term and that they could still use it but I wish there was a better term - like “caterpillar name”. Cause they were a caterpillar and now they changed and they are a butterfly.

To say my kid lit up is an understatement. They told me they loved that and immediately went to tell their friends. I get why people use the term deadname but in our house it looks like we will be using “caterpillar name.”
