Athenaβs "magical" power
As Iβm becoming an SLP (speech-language pathologist), I think even more about Athenaβs so-called power. As you all probably know, she can hear the genuine emotion(s) in things people around her say.
So what does that have to do with me becoming an SLP and what even is that? In short, SLPβs diagnose and treat communication, voice and swallowing disorders in children and adults. We started talking about voice (disorders) a few weeks ago and how it affects our personality, how and why we even use our voice and stuff.
As weβre listening to people more closely due to sharpening our skills, I realize how much pronunciation, volume, rhythm, tone and more influence the message we get from someone. I know itβs not really possible to 'detect' genuine emotions if the person really tries to hide them. But if youβre listening closely and have developed a feeling for or are receptive to that sort of thing, I donβt think itβs impossible to guess what somebodyβs feeling at the moment.
So Iβd say that Athenaβs just really receptive to detecting what people are truly feeling because she has great social skills and is more experienced with listening closely. The things that are mentioned aside from these facts are probably said to make her fit in in a world of magatamas and even more unrealistic things like logic.. ;)
