I wish that so much of the Check Please fanfiction wasn’t all centered around Kent Parson. I would just so much rather read stories about other people in the CP universe. If you want tortured moody white guy who can show character growth...WRITE ABOUT JACK. Someone overcoming the fact that they’re small and proving they can still play amazing hockey? WRITE ABOUT BITTY. There are out athletes, there are queer-coded athletes, there are plenty of characters that are more tertiary and you can mold them into whatever without running afoul of canon...just because he’s canonically an asshole doesn’t make him interesting.
